I can't speak for shifuimam, but I don't think the issue is whether one is a "real" Christian, but how much of the Bible one is willing to shuffle under the rug.
As someone who wants to shuffle the entire Bible under the rug, Hitchens is making an inappropriately self-serving argument.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but I don't think that was why Warren was picked. It was because Warren, in effect, did the same thing (i.e. he disagreed with Obama on many things, but agreed with more, and urged his congregation to look past that and vote for him).

What was missing from Warren's statements that makes the big difference here in your opinion, hatred against the US?
Yes, a little change of heart. I'm not as sold on Obama as I was before, as I think he's turning into just another Washington insider, judging by his choices for some of the positions available, and his backtracking on several issues. I still think he's a better choice than McCain, and we still have yet to see what he actually does, but he's leaving me a little cool right now.
