I don;t have the black one but I have the white. I did see and handle the black. It is a flat black finish. It is not at all glossy

I'll have to say that I really prefer the look of the white model, which I didn't really expect.

Yeah the black looks kinda dull, and white just seems more Apple Damn I'd love one, becasue I really don't need the GPU in my MBP, don't game on it, but hate to sell and lose money on it. Bah!

The black color almost appears to have been added as an afterthought.

Yes, its a flat black. Its very subjective as to someone's liking it or not. I didn't like it at all

Is the finish akin to the skin of the G3 Pismo??? That is what it looks like.

Looks like the thermal paste is much better then the Macbook pro's. I'm so glad they made the HD so easy to access, now I can get the 1299 model and slap a 7200 in there and use the 60 for an external, sweet!

I want to see pics that compare the size (side-by-side) of the MB and a 15" MBP or Powerbook... They are roughly similar insize according to the measurements - but it would be nice to actaually see a comparison.
Anyone care to oblige?

I just think it looks sleaker and more professional along the lines of the older Pismos.

All I can offer is a comparison between the MB and the 12"PB.

I luuurve the black MacBook. I know these things are to a great degree subjective, but it was the matte finish that tipped the scales for me. If the black had been glossy I'd have gone white.

Sweet shot!!! Too bad the cabling is white. Guess it just did not make cost sense. Do you notice any scuffing yet...I hope you never scuff mind you. Is it like the finish on the Thinkpads??? Sorta matte and chalky to the touch???

I see that you also have a MBP... Could you take a few comparison pics of the MBP and the MB - ie. so we can get a good comparison of the size difference?
P.S. Why do you have a MBP and a MB... Just like them a lot? ;-)

hehe, well I just sold my 12" PB to pick up the Macbook, which I didn't plan on doing initially, but playing with the MB in the store convinced me. I use my MBP for my pro work and it serves as my desktop. I have to travel more than I would like on airplanes and I used the 12" as my travel machine, which I'll now use the MB for. I think it is going to fit quite nicely on those drop down trays on planes.
I'll take a few comparrison shots and add them here shortly.

Good to know you liked the keys. Man, these photos may be the ones to convince me to buy a BlacBook without ever touching one....Nah, I will touch one first!

NightEyes: Great comparison shots of the 15" PowerBook and the 13" MacBook.
[Edited]: Thanks to MagicBoy for pointing it out. It's MacBook Pro, not PowerBook.

Yep, MBP. I definitely recommend going into a store and playing with a MBP before buying. It is really what convinced me to pick one up and part with my 12" PB.

No it's not! The screen on the G4 iBooks is GREAT! (or, at least, that is what I keep telling myself since I am stuck with my 12" iBook for at least the next couple of years)

Thanks for the photos. It has further tempted me to get the black one. I played around with a white one at an Apple store today (they had no black ones yet, even as demos!) and found I had the same complaint I had with the 14" iBook - too much flat white plastic to look at. Sure the glossy lid looks great, but I spend most of my time looking at the screen and keyboard, not the lid.
And I've always wanted a Pismo...
