I wasn't exactly amazed that they could be so bad, since almost all those old Hong Kong movies are terrible.

Still, there are so many B-movies that are terrible that I wouldn't even know where to start. Stuff like the Delta Force series, Iron Eagle, anything with Michael Dudikoff are all terrible.

Of mainstream movies there are also many bad ones, and some incredibly bad ones, but I don't actually remember all that many, probably because there were so many, but of recent ones, Van Helsing comes to mind, almost anything with Wesley Snipes and the hordes of insipid teen comedies, love stores and horror movies.

My Top 10 Most Geniusly Awful Movies Ever

1. Sgt. Pepper's
2. Manos: Hands of Fate
3. Dreamcatcher (and so recent!)
4. R.O.T.O.R. A cult is growing around this film, and for good reason. It is beyond awesome (http://www.jabootu.com/rotor.htm)
Selected quotes: "You fire me and I'll make more noise than two skeletons making love in a tin coffin, brother." "Look at you, you look like you got both eyes coming out of the same hole."
5. Flash Gordon
6. Matrix 2
7. Toys
8. Leprechaun 5: Leprechaun in the 'Hood
9. Plan 9 from Outer Space
10. Billy Lone Bear (never released, even to video. Billy Bear from 48 Hours wrote and directed, with Frank Stallone. So cheap, at one point they have a slow-motion shootout, but because filming in slow-motion burns film twice as fast they instead had the actors ACT IN SLOW MOTION. The single greatest moment I have witnessed in film history.
(Lobby Sonny Landham to release the tapes here http://www.sonnylandham.com)

HONORABLE MENTIONS...

Funky Monkey (never released). This is a monkey movie with Matthew Modine that Warner Bros. canned... after shooting it TWICE. The first time they shot it, it was with a guy in a monkey suit. That sucked so bad, they reshot the whole movie with a real monkey... then threw both versions out. The tagline may be the finest ever: "He's the best super-Ninja secret agent football star monkey hero around."

All American Murder. Christopher Walken directed by Potsy from Happy Days. Christopher Walken should have been given not just an Oscar for this movie, but every Oscar. Favorite line: "In the time it takes you to get a hard-on, she could Simonize a car and learn He-brew!"

Wow. For what seems like the first time ever, we are in complete agreement. That movie came out my freshman year in college. I still chuckle at the ludicrous "I got towels" comment every now and then.

The worst movie ever is still Freddy Got Fingered. You can all give up now.

I liked Ed Wood by the way...

Jackie Chan's HK movies are good. Even SuperCop 2 had its moments.

Ed Wood was brilliant. And Landau deserved the Oscar he got. Great film.

Now a bad one was Ghosts can't do it. So bad, not even the thought of a nekkid Bo Derek was worth the idea of finishing the film.

I don't think Swordfish is really bad at all. At any rate, having a half-naked Halle Berry may not stop a movie from being bad, but I do think it eliminates it from the running for worst movie ever. I guess I'm just shallow. OTOH, not even Halle could've saved Freddy.

The thing with that movie is they tried to make a straight teenage boner flick. Unfortunately all the straight boys got totally turned off by it and it became a gay cult classic.

Being intentionally campy doesn't make a movie immune from being hilariously awful. Showgirls (especially Gina Gershon's performance) was often deliberately campy - and it's still mind-bogglingly terrible. Other horrible "campy" movies - Casino Royale, Xanadu...

But we both have one thing in common... we loooove watching Flash Gordon.

Three cheers for a half naked Halle Berry!!!! That scene saved the movie. It's still pretty stupid.

The Ring Two. I liked the first one but there is no conveying how crappy the second one is. So so so boring and slow with the most pointless story ever. Nothing happens in it.

That deer scene is mind boggling pointless and fake looking.

I didn't even think the first one was all that good. Maybe it lost something in the translation.

Agree with you completely. I got that as a "comedy" option to watch after American Psycho. It made that movie seem like a Hitchcock masterpiece.

what are you people on? alien vs predator was bloody brilliant - anyone who disagrees is clearly cracked. awesome film!

i'd almost suggest matrix 2, though i must admit that the freeway chase was pretty good. ditto for swordfish, saved by halle. worst film ever has to be ocean's 12 - ocean's 11 was great, but 12 had nothing going for it at all and sucked even worse in comparison to the first.

Transporter 2. Horrid cheasy and over the top.

Hostel: Gore, I wanted to walk out of it and complain. So pointless but plenty of idiots confuse gore with horror.
