I updated the vanilla client and did some exploring in a new world. The monsters were wearing pumpkin heads, didn't find a witch hut.

I've decided to move all the RedPower stuff to its own dedicated building. Now I'm setting up the Bluelectric machines and in the spirit of using RedPower tech (which is very new to me) I'd like to pose a question to those with more know-how than me.
I'd like to pull items from 2 chests (redstone+copper, nikolite+silver, etc) and feed them into Alloy Furnaces and remove said Alloy all with using RedPower devices and pipes, possibly even a sorting machine. I'd like the system automated from the time I dump items in the source chests until retrieving the finished items from sorted chests.
What kind of devices will I need to extract items from chest, deposit them in machines, remove from machines, etc etc... I've built a few things and read the wiki but I can't seem to get anything working at the moment.
Edit:
So far this is the sum of my skillz. Not having to worry about overflow into the machines is nice, but having those stacks of items moving through the pipe back and forth all the time is annoying, also this takes up more room than I'd like and the configuration could definitely use some tweaking.

Redpower sends items to the closest available inventory, if there was someplace past the furnace they would go by and not bounce around. As for the automated crafting, thats what I was working on when I switched to technic for the crazy pipes.
My prototype was retrievers to pull out the items and send them on, then retrievers to act as gates to control were they went. It doesn't scale well though. You can also use Filters to pull just the right amount, one for each and wire them both up to a button or clock.

Reworking my home base.

Went to visit cycl0pse. He thoughtfully prevented it from blowing away. On my way to visit Andi there was a glitch and the side compressed and its busted now.

Quick hive-mind question about redstone tubes. Specifically, retrievers.
From what I'm reading, you can put multiple retrievers on one set of tubes, give each one an assignment, and it will collect from whatever the tubes connect to?
So, hypothetically, I could have a group of furnaces each making a different metal, and say 3 retrievers setup to get iron, copper, and tin, have all the tubes touch the furnaces and retrievers, then redstone pulse the retrievers to gather the metal? Specifically, I don't need a "sending" device on the furnaces, just a retriever down-line on the tubes?
(and if this is true, dear lord it's WORTH getting blutricity working.)
Also, in case anyone needs steel, I have several stacks right now. The blast furnace is currently down for automation setup, but should be running full-force after the weekend. Coal and Iron in one end, steel and creosote oil out the other. I really need to think of a good use for that oil... got quite a bit of it already...
There's a rail line in my basement that goes to the blast furnace. easy access from my nether portal.

Yes that's exactly how retrievers work. It doesn't scale into a general purpose crafting system.

So last night I finally took the plunge into RedPower Computers. Crafting them couldn't be any easier, now using them....
I watched a neat tutorial video that basically laid out how to code exactly what I will be using them for, to control Bundled Cable and colored jacketed wire outputs from the I/O Expander. I set up three lamps and went to work creating new 'words' to control certain outputs.
Everything works great and next I will be making my own Floppy disk with every jacketed color cable coded to work with an I/O Expander. I did run into one problem though. According to the video you can shift + right click with a screwdriver on the CPU, Monitor, Disk Drive, etc to see and/or set the Bus ID. This did not work for me.

Trying to make progress, but it goes slowly. Sunday I rebooted the modem, and rebooted the computer. Yesterday still lots of crashes, so I upped the RAM to 4gb allocated. So far so good. I made some lamps and lit my floor.
Otherwise, what OS/JAVA are people using? I'm on 10.7 and I think the new JAVA.

certain parts of Tekkit were compiled with Java 7 (specifically I know the nether ores are) so I"m going to upgrade to 7 and see what it does.
The latest Mac version requires the OS to be 10.7.3 or higher.

Well Andi, I'd like to try something but it entails the loss of everything in you're inventory. If you cant empty it then take a screen shot and we can replace anything precious.

Personal inventory. You could also try traveling to Dakar or Seks and see if it still disconnected you.

Ok, gear all stowed away. I did also discover that at some point my settings shutting off water/lava animation had been reset, but fixing that didn't help.

I'm gonna delete you player info file on the chance that its corrupt. That will mean you end up back at spawn. The good news is cycl0pses first temp base is in the mine underneath and there's a ravine granting access. There's a rail tunnel from there to his place or mine, you definitely don't want to walk the rail lines. If there aren't enough supplies there to make your journey home easy feel free to raid my place for supplies. There's a button at the base of the stairs leading out of my rail station.

Well, I'm at cyclopse's, and crashed putting some iron in a furnace. So maybe it's not my volcano's fault then. Thanks for the debugging effort!

I had a good couple hours of productivity, but it crashed again ~11. I took it as a message that I should do something else. Blaze said my connection was weak: blame Verizon next?
Built a quick nether portal, angered some pigmen, ah, like the old days.

The screen shot didn't take but Jawbone isn't the only one now.
cycl0pse mentioned some lag at my place. Turned out I left the UU-matter machine running. So I remove 18 stacks of cobble from the block breakers. Then I notice the scrap bouncing back and forth in the iron pipe. The pipe likes to flip orientation automatically. Then like an idiot I broke the pipe. I had to stop the server and mcedit in a lava block because I couldn't get my lava bucket out of my alchemist bag before enough items spilled out of the pipe to crash my client.

So I switched my solar array construction over to red power. The key is the retrievulator. The trick to it is quantity on the right and type (aka 1 item) on the left. It won't jam or drop batteries like the last one would. I need to pretty up the input chests some.

I've been pondering. I wonder if rather than putting a "kick me" sign on his back, I wonder if I could get a Juggernaut floating just out of sight behind him. Maybe visible just outside the force field?
(Of course, in reality I just don't have that kind of free time. But the thought is amusing )

Yay! Nice being back home again, although I had some hilarious deaths due to not flying. Bats are nice in mineshafts.
There are some new items in the cookie shop, including certain vegetables... blaze, I left a free sample in your village hut.
I noticed the same thing as you also with grinders. My jungle zombie grinder works, (zombies climb up, then fall down to kill zone) but my temple grinder (zombies fall down to water, then climb back up to kill zone) does not. It takes hits with an iron sword to kill them. So make a hard landing pad then start the water one block over?

I think I'm gonna switch over to a crusher like my spider grinder. I don't have the space above. Thinking about it a pressure plate and piston may work so they can fall in a solid block and still end up in water. I'll post s progress report later.
Those certain vegetables allow for the creation of certain potions.
--------------
Okay fixed the fall portion of my grinder. The pressure plate is were the fence post was. Now to check my dark room grinder it probably totally busted.
