I guess we were too anxious. But if you ordered a 733, something else must be wrong. I don't know of too may people still waiting, unless it's the twinview. That should be shipping now.

I'm shipped!!!

Dual 800/GeForce3/Combo drive ordered 7/18 through a local Apple Specialist retailer, picked up by FedEx 8/16.

Won't get here until next Wednesday, though.

I called Apple today and they said my dual800 is done, but won't ship til Monday or Tuesday because of the backlog at the shipping center. At least it's ready to go... I ordered it on 7/25.

I have a dumb question: Will I have any problems hooking up my old MultiSync M700 to the quicksilver?

When it ships, it will get here.

I was told by the end of the week. Then next week. Then this morning in te next 24-72 hours. This afternoon, it's being assembled, middle or end of next week (that was after the 5-7 week from shipping line).

Who knows? The guy assured me that it was first in, first out as for the orders. I told him I ordered right after the keynote. He said maybe some of those orders were a few minutes ahead of mine. I told him that some of them were weeks later. At least one was August 7. He said that his system wouldn't explain that. He didn't know.

He said the backlog was going to hold it up 3-5 after it was completely assembled. The only advantage I've gotten from the Apple store was build to order and saving some money. I could have probably ordered from ClubMac and gotten it sooner than direct.

I give up. One day (hopefully soon), I'll get an email that says Shipped. Until then, it's back to the iMac.

The wait time when i ordered(8/7) was 5-7 weeks. The other day I was told it would ship at the end of the month, today I was told that it will most likely be 5-7 weeks from when I ordered that I will get it. Urrr!! This is my first Mac desktop machine and I want to get it before I leave for school.

Has anyone gotten the line that since you had your stuff shipped seperately it would be "illegal" for apple to change the shipping on your order now?

Every time I've asked. They shipped UPS and FedEx ground so they shouldn't be tied to one shipper.

Like many others, I ordered a BTO dual 800 on July 18th, the day of the keynote address. I've seen the order status shift from "Being Reviewed" to "Being Assembled," and after my printer shipped, I've seen the status shift back and forth from "Being Reviewed" to "Partially Shipped" (which is where it's at right now).

I spoke with two different operators at 1-800-MY-APPLE earlier this week. The first was just to see what the status of my order was, and she quoted me the 5-7 weeks message I had received when I initially ordered my G4. The second was to see if I could slightly change the configuration of my G4, and he said that he would not recommend doing so because I was at the front of the queue and if I changed my order I would go all the way to the back. He said to expect the computer to be shipped at the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

I also ordered a Cinema Display from Outpost.com (I didn't order it from Apple or buy it at the local Glendale Apple Store to save on sales tax) on Thursday and it'll take a week to ship via Airborne Express. I'm sure both its arrival and the G4's arrival will cause quite a commotion at the office next week, where we use Macs extensively.

BTW, here're the stats on my G4:

Dual 800MHz PowerPC G4
128MB SDRAM/1 DIMM
2x80GB Ultra ATA-7200rpm
250MB Zip drive
SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce3-64MB DDR SDRAM
No Radeon PCI card
No Ultra SCSI PCI card
56K internal modem
AirPort Card
Apple Pro Keyboard
Mac OS
Country kit Desktop

Oh, thanks to everyone who's posted updates on their BTOs thus far. I've really enjoyed reading them.

I called Apple yesterday regarding another matter and while I was on the phone I asked for the real UPS tracking # for my dual800...got it...now looking I can see that it was picked up on thursday by UPS (I received the shipped email very late weds night...guess they're working late packing these things to get them out the door....)....so far it's made its way from Sacremento to Seattle...gettin' close...barring any delays at Canada Customs I shouyld have it tuesday - weds at the latest.

Lots to do before then...clean out old junk and then back up all my stuff. I know I'll be a busy guy next weekend getting the whole thing setup to my liking.....the excitement builds.

I was told on Friday that it would be 2-3 more days due to shipping dock overflow, before ship. I just got an e-mail and tracking # that indicate my dual-800 shipped TODAY, Saturday, at around 7pm. So I'll be getting it Tuesday!! Too fine!!

Well, sat on hold for 25 minutes and was given the same story as some of you above...already assembled, but waiting packaging due to a backlog. Should ship Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

Here are the specs via Education channel:
Dual 800MHz PowerPC G4
128MB SDRAM/1 DIMM
40GB Ultra ATA-5400rpm
No Zip drive
Combo drive
NVIDIA GeForce3-64MB DDR SDRAM
No Radeon PCI card
No Ultra SCSI PCI card
No Modem
No AirPort Card

I'm adding a 512MB DIMM (seeing as how it is so cheap!) and a Formac Studio - which should also ship next week some time. Ooo...I can't wait!

The GeForce 3s seem to be a popular pick among the soon-to-be dual800 owners. Cool!

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output

My BTO 867 was ordered on July 24, and it arrived here Aug 10, so about a 2 1/2 week wait. Not bad considering I was told 4-6 weeks.

I just got it today though, since I was away on a holiday when it came in. You know how holidays seems to go soooooo fast? Not mine.

Don't get *too* excited yet Blakespot....

I got my email on wednesday evening, with Apple's tracking #, however it was not actually picked up by the courier until thursday. Not too many couriers pick up late on saturday.....so yours may sit on the shipping dock until monday. I believe Applr sends out the email when they've packed the order and filled out the shipping manifest, not when the shipper has actually picked it up.

My guess is that if you've got 2 day shipping, you'll see it wednesday.

Looks like you're right....if you got the *real* tracking number then it is on the way. Perhaps mine was different because I chose ground UPS.

Mine looks on track for Tuesday as well......

How many people who ordered on July 18 have not had their order shipped? They tell me today that it will ship middle to end of the week.

If you ordered on July 19 or later, what was your configuration and when did it ship.

They told me first come first served in placing. Obviously that is not true.

Hey Dyno, who did you talk to get your shipping upgraded? They still "can't" upgrade mine.

I ordered july 21st, called fed ex today and since it shipped saturday I will have it no later than 4:30 tuesday. I called and raised hell that retailers now had the unit I ordered and I could cancel and have one overnighted. The guy I talked to tried to tell me that it would be "Illegal" to change my shipping since part of my order had shipped, I calmly explained to him that since I ordered UPS ground shipping and Apple decided to change to the slower and cheaper Fed Ex ground that they had already changed my shipping without my permission and the way i saw it they had 2 options... give me a 2 day fed-ex upgrade or ship UPS ground. I had to explain this again to a supervisor and she got it done.

mark n,
i ordered mine 15 minutes after the keynote began on july 18th (non-educational) bto dual800, and mine is still "being assembled", with out even a hint that i will ship soon. and we are about to hit the 5-week mark this wed.

frankly, i'm pretty bent out of shape about the fact that some people have "received" theirs last week, meaning shipped out even earlier than that. some i' sure are educational sales, so that's understandable. but i know i had to have been within the first hundred orders.

send mine out already. to pay that much money for anything and have to wait 5 weeks sucks. good luck to everyone else. i hope you get yours soon.

My 800DP arrived on Friday (8/17). I ordered from the Apple online store (non-education) on 7/27, so it was delivered exactly three weeks after I ordered it. Here's my configuration:

800DP/128MB RAM/2x60GB HD/CD-RW/TwinView/Zip Drive/No Airport/Modem

Since I live in Central California, I stayed with the free shipping. It shipped on Wed and took two days.

Good luck to all who are still waiting.

Well Apple is now "officially" shipping the DP 800 systems. They quote 10 days for stock and 15 for BTO systems at The Apple Store.

I ordered mine BTO EDU on 7/25 with no word yet.

I called and asked when I could expect it seeing that they're now shipping. The guy tried to be helpful, but he didn't have much information. He said he could only give the 5-7 weeks company line, but it looked like "they have been working on the machine."

Mark N, I ordered my BTO Dual 800 on July 18th and have yet to receive it.

I checked my order this morning on Apple's site and it was still listed as being "Partially Shipped," so I called the Apple Store and found out that it was being assembled. The operator said she expects me to receive it at the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

Here again are the specs on my G4:

800DP/128MB RAM/2x80GB HD/250MB Zip/SuperDrive/GeForce3/56K modem/AirPort Card

I tried to post this a couple of times yesterday, but with the forums no chance.

I called back to Apple and asked if I could speak with someone who could override the shipping charges, they said that no one could.

So I asked why other CTOs were shipping and was told, "A lot of people believe that placing you order first means that your computer gets built and shipped first, but that is just not the case."

I was told of the order queue on a previous call. Maybe I'll just wait, since there are others of you in similar situations.

Seems that I can get no good reason for having my order ship later than others, and the full loading dock should be somewhat less full by now.

I'll be upgrading from an 8600/300 at home that a former dot-com paid for me about five years ago, so it'll be quite a difference from that as well as the G4/400 at work.

As expected, my Dual 800 arrived today...woohoo! Nice, very nice....love the look of the new case. Booted 9.2.1 and tinkered a bit...but the real tests start after I have finished backing up all my stuff from "old beige" and restored on the new dual....

A very busy, but fun few days coming up.

just so you guys know, i just checked the apple store website, and its saying that a CTO (built to order) dual 800 will ship in 3 days, and 1 day for the standard config.

i am one of the people who ordered 15 minutes after the beginning of the keynote on 7/18 (non-educational) built-to-order dual 800...evrything standard, except geforce3, zip250, and cd-rw drive.
mine is still "being asembled".....with no other word on when it will go out.

i talked to an apple rep, on monday, he sadi that all the stuff about people already receiving their dual800's, and a backup at the loading docks was made up. he said that the people posting on this site, and others, are making things up. according to chaos theory, there probably are some people making up what they post (just in this section) but the odds that everyone is, is rediculous.....i'm not. i still haven't received anything yet, and it seems as though i could cancel my order, put in a new one, and it would be here faster....

we'll see about all this in the morning, when, once again, i call up an apple rep., put on hold for about 10 min., and see about cancelling my order......maybe.

My BTO Dual 800 (128MB RAM, 80G HD, Twinview, Superdrive, etc) that was ordered on 8/1 shipped this evening from CA. So we'll see what FedEx does with the shipping. The two 512MB RAM arrays from OTC arrived within 24 hours of ordering (that's service!). So it's time to settle on a partitioning scheme for the new machine's HD and figure out what to move and what to toss.
G5 Dual, 12" Au PB, Nikon Coolscan IV ED, Epson 1200 scanner, Canon i950 printer; Sony GV-D900, Sony DCR-TRV900, Canon D60, Nikon 990, Canon S400 Yes, too much stuff

Dornball,

I hope you get good news today. I called Apple about 9:30 pm EST and they said that my machine was ready and it should ship in 24-48 hours. This morning I finally got shipment notification. It will take until next Tuesday or so to arrive with FedEx shipping, but at least it shipped. Good luck to you. I had ordered on 7/18 just as the AppleStore opened.

Mine shipped late Tuesday. BTO, EDU, 800 DP stripped down as far as it would go. It was ordered on 7/25.

It's pretty frustrating hearing others get theirs who ordered after mine. I feel for those who ordered shortly after the keynote and yet to hear anything. As usual Apple screws something up. It wouldn't surprise me if they elected to build bigger orders first (more configured options, plus accessories)

I don't know which is better -- finally getting my machine or not having to fight with these crappy forums for information.

I have just arrived home from work to find a reply from Apple ststing that my order has been processed and is now ready for delivery....but i could change it if i was quick.

Too late now .....

BTO 800DP , 60GHD . 128MB RAM , GeF3 , 17" LCD.

I order right after the keynote (maybe even during) and I'm still waiting for my dual 800. I called this morning and berated the person a little (pointing out that an order processed today has a lead time of 3 days and that other people have received their duals already). She kept to the 5-7 week time estimate (it's been 5 weeks). She did say it's in the late build stage for whatever that's worth. My personal theory is that the 80gb drives are holding things up. Or apple is just incompetant.

Anyway, one thing I got to do was use the $50 coupon to reduce the price of my order (since it hasn't shipped you can do that). So if you're still waiting and you got the coupon email you might want to give Apple a call.

Here's my config:
POWER MAC G4 CTO Z03W $ 3,498.00 1 $ 3,498.00
Power Mac G4 065-2839
Dual 800MHz PowerPC G4 065-3162
128MB SDRAM/1 DIMM 065-3001
80GB Ultra ATA-7200rpm 065-2916
250MB Zip drive 065-2957
Combo drive 065-2936
NVIDIA GeForce3-64MB DDR SDRAM 065-2976
No Radeon PCI card 065-2348
No Ultra SCSI PCI card 065-1695
56K internal modem 065-3080
AirPort Card 065-1898
Apple Pro Keyboard 065-3160
Mac OS 065-2837
Country kit Desktop 065-2838
No items shipped.

I ordered my dual 800mhz machine on 8/17 through the ADC Student Store and it shipped out today (8/22). It has 40gb hard drive, Geforce 2, 128mb ram, CD-RW.

Hope everyone else who ordered duals gets theirs soon!

Later,
rats

I got my dual 800 today... I ordered through education at the en of july. I am getting used with X, I never used it before. A question for other QS users... Did you installed anything as soon as you got the machine? Is is X fully installed or there are some little things like desktop patterns and stuff that i have to install myself...? thank you...

On 07/18/2001 I ordered the cheapest dualy I could:

Dual 800MHz PowerPC G4 (10.1 is pretty good now on my 400mhz Yikes, do the math )
128MB SDRAM/1 DIMM (hope my 2x256 pc133 in my current box works)
60GB Ultra ATA-7200rpm (40 GB is 5400.... nasty)
No Zip drive
CD-RW Drive (CD-r is totally more economical than zip which I so rarely received, now using external 4x scsi cd-r...what a pain...so old, hope 10.1's dvd player likes my external dvd-ram drive)
NVIDIA GeForce2MX w/32MB SDRAM (I only slighty yearn for a GF3 )
No Modem (cable/ethernet.... never goin' back to dial-up)
No AirPort Card

Which shipped Tuesday, set to arrive by next Tuesday. Unfurtanetly Fedex's tracking info is rather vague, so I have no idea where my machine is now. What is the ground route from CA to RI? I've been waiting patienly..... lets hope that allowed futher Quality control regarding plastics and speaker anomolies. Agony, this is worse than watching my orderStatus page stay at 'being built' for 4 weeks. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Latest update...

A colleague of mine ordered his BTO G4/733 last Monday (he had wanted a BTO G4/867 but the wait time was too long for him) and received it yesterday.

My Cinema Display, ordered through Outpost.com last Thursday, arrived yesterday. I hooked it up to my G4/400 at work, and it's quite a sight to behold. To have two full-sized Web pages side-by-side is truly a welcome benefit for a codemonkey like myself. Another colleague asked me to play the Iron Giant DVD and we were truly amazed at the picture quality.

Regarding my BTO G4/800 DP, I called Apple yesterday and today and found out that the G4 has been assembled, is currently being tested, and that it will be shipped next week, so I should receive it by the end of next week.

I've been quite patient thus far but now that I know that my G4 has been assembled, the next week is going to be extremely excruciating. Like dulie, I'm wondering why some BTO 800 DPs ordered after mine (I ordered on 7/18 in the early afternoon PST) are being delivered already but it could indeed be the two 80GB hard drives holding things up.

I ordered three 512MB DIMMs last week, which arrived just now.

All I need's the freakin' CPU!

800DP/128MB RAM/2x80GB HD/250MB Zip/SuperDrive/GeForce3/56K modem/AirPort Card
