How long does it take to fix a broken game with server/online issues? Over three months if you're Driveclub's team. Welcome to next-gen.

"Buy now, fix later"
The same fear people have of updating an OS day 1, they need to have buying a game day 1, now. This is one of the main reasons I don't preorder games.

I was giving it thought, and they are in a bit of quandary. There are 11 mil PS+ owners on PS4, I believe (It may be lower). Once they offer DC up they need to be capable of handling that surge. And if not that surge, that remainder that stay on. And that remainder may dwarf the current total population of Driveclub. So what are they waiting for? Optimization? Or is it the bureaucracy of trying to get management to sign off on the assload of servers they'll need to handle either the initial or later load?
They may be in a no-win situation, but I have amazingly little sympathy for them.

PSN announced they had a maintenance scheduled for Thursday. Within hours people couldn't log in because PSN is under maintenance. Even though it's not.
Two morals here:
1. PSN is down. Again. (No one knows why)
2. Their system assumes if it can't connect it's maintenance by default. Which is insulting.

Time to come back to Xbox?
I think it's time that each company starts putting in some work to keep these networks up. It's like the American president said, lately, if you want to be connected, you got to make sure you can keep that network secure (and I would add available).
We're paying for access to these networks.

What?! DriveClub was the UK's best-selling exclusive of 2014 - DriveClub for PS4 News
DriveClub was the UK's best-selling single-platform exclusive of 2014, it's been revealed.
The racer fended off other console exclusives The Last of Us: Remastered, Infamous: Second Son, Sunset Overdrive and Halo: The Master Chief Collection to come out on top, despite suffering from disastrous launch issues.
Much of the game's success likely came as a result of its inclusion in Black Friday bundles. Last month it was revealed that sales of DriveClub had jumped 999 per cent during Black Friday week after a console bundle containing a copy of the game fell to £289.

This is Sid Meier himself, which tends to mean slightly lighter fare these days (see Civilization Revolution), and the fact that it is also iOS at launch supports that theory. OTOH, some video suggests a MoO clone, which would be amazing.

I am going to test an Oculus Dev Kit 2 tonight, if I can get it working. The guy who bought it (2nd hand) said that he spent quite a while looking at the walls in Alien Isolation. Apparently one of the 'games' on the demo nearly made him sick. And I've been warned about a certain velociraptor.

OK, very easy to setup so far, loads of wires though. Only seen the desk (very Minecraftish) in the setup and some sort of villa with butterflies and a fountain.
Bad point : since its very much like a ski mask, any glasses wearers (me) will not be able to wear their glasses.
Kids were gotten out of bed to have a look and were most impressed.
Need to download a demo called Titan something. Will report back later.

Hmm. Downloaded another demo and all went pear-shaped. Had to reboot the machine for the headset to be 'live' again. Colleague did say that sometimes you have to stop and restart the Oculus service. Tried using it in Alien Isolation and it didn't work. Might try and fool around some more tomorrow before giving it back on Thurs.
Pity cos the initial setup and demos worked no sweat.

You need to see your hands. I didn't realise what the 'issue' was until discussing it with the owner of the Ocululs over coffee this morning. You feel cut-off somehow. You can see and hear and sort of interact but without your hands it just doesn't feel right. And it needs to be your hands, not just hands drawn in that don't move (which is the case for 2 of the demos that I watched). Maybe a game like Elite will be different, since in the cockpit there are hands and they move as you move the joystick and throttle.

Microsoft's New Xbox App Brings Game DVR and Chat to Your PC
It'll let you text and chat and do everything you love on Xbox Live across every Windows device you have. The biggest and best news? It'll let you stream your Xbox One games to any Windows 10 device.
It's not just that though. You know all that cool Game DVR stuff the Xbox One can do? Well the Xbox app can do it too, and it'll work for any game running on Windows.
It'd be really cool, if the PC could DVR the X1 gameplay, but not bad either way.

What would be truly useful is if you could stream Windows games to the Xbone, like Steam can from a powerful PC to any PC, Mac, or Linux box that can decode H.264.

Been watching as many demos as possible in the last hour. I now have a small but annoying headache. Not even going to try to configure it for Elite or Alien, back into the box.
Its not that light after a few minutes, I can even feel a tingling in my neck where what I assume are usually unsolicited muscles just at the base of the skull.
To keep light out, it needs to be snug, which feels like I've been in a too tight motorcycle helmet.
Some demos are truely excellent, some just don't work, some crash at the start, some work for a bit and then crash. Hopefully I haven't infected my PC with anything.

Sounds like VR i 90s, only not as bad. Guess this may be further off yet. Maybe 2025

It seems MS is "actively considering" this. Which is, eh? It should be dead simple to do - people are streaming to a Raspberry Pi FFS, so the power is there to decode, and MS clearly has the code to do it, so... Why not? Are they afraid that people will buy a big sponsored Xbone and not buy games for it?
Also: Seam in-home streaming supports Windows, Mac and Linux, yet Valve says that they are exploring ports to other OSes. What OSes are those? IOS and Android, probably, but i would love if they got Apple to support streaming to an AppleTV.

That embarrassing moment when your wife sees your three Amiibos sitting in your office and asks why you haven't given your toddler his new toys yet...
Also, better get a new microSD card for that New 3DS.
