I am considering pulling the trigger on a Mac Pro Nehalem refurb and would love to hear reports of positive and/or negative experiences with refurbs of this particular model. Thanks!

Is there any reason to expect them to be different from the standard refurb experience?

Last refurb Mac I bought was a dual G5 water cooler, and the experience has been a series of ordeals. So I guess I was looking for some reassurance. Even the refurb units are super expensive now. $4000 is the price-break for the middle of the line. Yes, it's a business machine and it pays for itself, but that's still quite a hit.

The watercooled units were especially problematic. In general Apple refurbs are fine except for the outside appearance on occasion.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Wouldn't it be better to wait for the next generation Mac Pros and get one of those units refurbished as soon as they are available?
Or do you need to buy right now?

Speaking from experience: if you buy a refurb, get 3 years of applecare. Period.
My experience was also with a watercooler G5 and when the cooling system
failed the entire innards of the CPU except for the SuperDrive and the HDD
needed replacement. The cost of the repair was more than a top of the line
G5 new otherwise so the Applecare paid for itself. Otherwise it's been fine.

Speaking from experience: If you buy a Mac, and want to be sure your computer will last three years, get 3 years of Apple Care. Period.
I've needed repairs on:
iBook G3
iBook G4
MacBook
iMac G5
iMac Core 2 Duo
Never owned a Power Mac, except for my Cubes, but those were purchased long after they were discontinued, and were Frankensteined up with various parts.
I didn't need repairs on my TiBook, but my paint did start chipping.
