The Powermate G4 will redefine mobile computing as we know it today.

G4 1.4GHZ Processor
10" TFT LCD Screen
512MB DDR Memory
40GB Hard Drive
2 USB
1 Firewire
Airport Extreme
Bluetooth

All housed in an attractive polycarbonate casing. Although lacking and optical drive, it is a straightforward 'internet and email' laptop. Aiming mostly for a more mobile group of individuals. Users can still use their devices on the Powermate G4, such as iSight and the iPod, download their music and transfer it to their iPod. Or have video conferences via iChat. With built in Aiport Extreme, this provides an excellent solution for a truly mobile laptop.

We can expect to see Apple annouce this product around mid November. Screenshots will be posted soon.

It would be a nice machine, good as a portable second computer for your main desktop, but it needs a different name...

Coleman Powermate air compressor

Griffin Powermate

Powermate lens

Dynacord Powermate mixer

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Sounds fantastic. This is what I thought Steve was going to announce that would work in conjunction with a Tivo type device. The iChat vid feed and everything else would be directed toward the table or if you wished, redirected to the T.V. along with all the multimedia files that your PC can currently play, controlled all with Apple's new iTablet.

We asked for something like this from Apple in a meeting with a Powerbook line manager a few years ago (worked for a school district). Bare bones laptop, no optical drive, just the basics. Something disposable to throw at kids.

We'll see if it happens. I know people at my old job would be happy.

Nice idea though I expect the market segment is too small for it to fly.

Of course you would have the same problem as other sub-notebooks, without an optical you can only install downloaded software and would have to buy an add-on drive to reinstall or upgrade the OS.

It would work as an accompaniment to a desktop. You can use firewire disk mode to install OS software on it.

I don't see it being a stand-alone computer.

Not that I think this is at all feasible.

There's a better chance that Steve will announce that they are taking the G4 Cube back into production.

Guys this is hopeful wishing. Am I the only one who gets that? Apple isn't going to release anything with a G4 right before the switch to Intel. If they did release this this would be on a Pentium M.

Nobody actually believes it's real (do they?) but since this is the Lounge we're going to talk about it anyway.

I think the G4 is on its last miles, but that does not mean it cannot be improved. I believe this is possible.
