I felt that it was more appropriate for this thread to go here. Apologies if this isn't the case.
Recently, on my new unibody MacBook, the 'Y' key has started to come off whenever I click on it anywhere near the top. It was becoming pretty annoying, as it turns out you use the Y key more than you might think. (I could 5 in that sentence alone)
Anyway (six, I'll stop now), I booked an appointment with an Apple Genius earlier today and managed to get one for 4:20 today. I headed down, expecting to hear the usual "it's a tiny fault we can't repair it sorry" or "that was your own fault we can't do anything". No. What I got was the most helpful Genius, who immediately filed for the MacBook to be fitted with a new case without any questions. They didn't have any stock and I may even have to part with this great machine for a few days, but the support that I got in store was beyond anything that I expected.
Just thought I'd share this ...

I don't think "appraisal" means what you think it does.

Typically the word "appraisal" is used when speaking of analyzing an item's value, not necessarily giving praise to someone or something.

I meant that toward the OP, not you. I really should use the quote function...

It sounds like his appraisal of Apple's genius bar service is fairly positive, if you ask me.

My appraisal of Laminar's analysis of the original post: "Poor".

I'm very glad they did right by you, kylef. Do you mind sharing which Apple Store you got this service in? In my experience the "Genius" quality of Apple's in-store folks is...let's say "variable." You know, in one store it's great and in the next, even in the same city, it's "not so good."

Since Victoria Square is the only Apple Store in Northern Ireland, I’d wager that’s probably the one.

Sorry, have you ever written a word and then another word and sort of 'combined them' - I was thinking Apple and Praise and 'appraisal' came out ... I can't seem to change the thread title.
Anyway, yeah - the victoria square apple store (first in Ireland). It's quite nice!

Wow.
Also, doesn't posting about not caring completely defeat its goal?

And that 'home' is indeed Northern Ireland. Who knows, he may call Guatemala home.
This is getting more and more interesting.

You're making assumptions about my goals that may not be realistic.

Obviously, I care enough about *something* to have made that post.
Probably not about the fact that Laminar may finally have made a valid post.

I'm confused by 95% of lounge threads. Just can't bridge that large cultural divide.

I'm honestly curious as to how I made it there in the first place. Was it a specific event or just a pattern over time?

That's because all the slacker Genii (that's plural for Genius, Laminar) were too busy taking a smoke break.

Dude. Even if the OP didn't mean to use the word appraisal, it was still correct usage.

My original assertion was that he didn't mean to use it as he did. I was correct.
