I've had some issues with Yosemite, and one of them being Preview. It used to work before, but all of a sudden, all of my PDFs opened with Preview are showing up as blank pages. They open up find in Adobe Reader. I have a six page PDF and I can scroll through all 6 pages in Preview but they all appear as blank pages!

I have rebooted and trashed the prefs file, but still have the same issue.

edit: It seems to be some sort of font issue, because other PDFs with text show up fine. I didn't install/uninstall anything besides Flash.

Does the PDF open up in Acrobat Reader?

FWIW, Preview has never been a reliable PDF viewer. It's ok for basic PDFs...text, images, etc...but trouble starts when the PDF incorporates more advanced things like live transparency effects, clipping masks, etc. Preview can even have issues with PDF forms. Adobe Acrobat/Reader is the only reliable PDF viewer, sadly.

Do you know how the PDFs were made? What app generated them? I can't imagine a font issue would make Preview show a blank page. If the font wasn't embedded properly, Preview would just show empty boxes or substitute a default font.

Why do you want to use Preview? Adobe Reader is much better and more reliable. And also free. Never had a single issue opening PDFs with Adobe Reader.

I use Preview to check PDFs for readability, and I view PDFs in it sometimes just because it's open. But I've seen enough weirdness with Preview not properly displaying files (not just PDFs) that I just go to some other app if I don't get an acceptable or usable display.

Yes, it opens in AR. I like Preview because it has a simpler interface and easier to do something. I usually trust it, but sometimes also open PDFs using AR to verify.

I think that the PDFs were created using Adobe Acrobat, but I am unsure. I will ask the client.

I have no problem reading, annotating or signing a PDF even a Gov Health form pdf.
This in Mavericks & now Yosemite you can do more, more easily like sig directly on to PDF. Instead of opening up the horrible Sig capture which never worked for Me.
