"If you purchased a new Mac on or after April 12 that didnt include Tiger, you can upgrade for just the cost of the media."

Er, that would be today then...

Got my G5 just before the end of last month (financial year) but miss out.

Never mind... Glad it's coming soon!

Already ordered and on the list. May wait a day or three once it comes just to see what crops up among others.

Tiger comes with dozens of new desktop pictures, including new Aqua and graphite ones. The aqua and graphite don't look too much different from Panther, though.

As expected, there is no mention of a DVD drive requirement.

The requirements for multi-user video iChat are pretty beefy though.

Video conferencing requires a compatible FireWire DV camera or web camera and broadband Internet access. One-to-one video conferencing requires a G5, G4, or 600MHz or faster G3 processor and 100-Kbps or faster broadband access.

Initiating a multiway video conference requires a G5 or dual 1GHz or faster G4 processor and 384-Kbps or faster broadband access. Participating in a multiway video conference and initiating a 6-person multiway audio conference both require a G5, 1GHz G4, dual 800MHz or faster G4 processor, and 100-Kbps or faster broadband access.

They're the same requirements for 1-1 chats, but understandably beefy for hosting multiple chats - you can still participate with a lower specced machine.

The family pack (5 machine license) is not available for pre-order?

I couldn't find it anyway....

EDIT::The family pack is apparently not available to education customers, which is why I didn't see it at the store.

You just need to go through a little more work if you want the CD's...

Tiger ships on a DVD, but if your Mac doesnt have a built-in DVD-ROM player, youll need CD media. When you buy Mac OS X Tiger, you qualify to purchase Tiger CDs for only $9.95.

Ordered with the EDU discount. I missed the cutoff by 5 lousy days (bought PB on Friday the 8th)...

Fully expected this to happen, and I am not that bothered by it. The time I got to spend this weekend learing about Panther was worth the $60.

Search for Tiger Family Pack in the store search. It's the first result
Or, look at the very top left of the main Apple Store page, under "Tiger Center".

I noticed when I ordered that it said in the shipping info that it should "arrive by the 29th". Does this mean that I would get it then, and it would actually ship before that?

Don't forget the Amazon discout for those of us who aren't students: Amazon order page. It's US$35 off the single seat and US$50 off the family pack.

I can't find the Family Pack yet to order it tho'.

Based on what I've been reading (and who knows if that's all accurate), it looks like the Pismo exclusion was an oversight as it not only has Firewire, but the requisite DVD ROM drive to install (even though you can order a CD version of Tiger). I'd bet that if the iBook SE is supported, Pismo is too.

So... What if you tried to place the order on April 11, but the online store couldn't verify your Visa card (for some reason - it just gave an 'unknown error occurred' error), and you called Apple, and they then entered the order in manually as a bank transfer order, telling you to wait for an e-mail from them today (April 12) that would then tell you whether the previous order went through after all, so you'd cancel the transfer order, or whether it didn't go through, so you'd have to pay the transfer order and cancel/ignore the Visa order? What then? Does that count as April 11 or April 12? In other words, does "purchased" mean that the order is entered into the system, or that you pay for the Mac?

I'm really psyched about this, but dammit I hope my order counts as April 12, not April 11!!!

Just call them and tell them that you want to cancel your order and place a new order for the same items. It will cost you nothing to do that and you will be able to order a Tiger update for a much reduced price !

Heh, you're too fast for me, I was just going to edit my previous post

I just talked to the guy who's going to send me the e-mail (wanted to make sure he hadn't forgotten, and figured I should call now to be more or less sure to get a hold of him before he goes home). Turns out "purchase" means when the money goes through, and since it looks like it's going to be the bank transfer way, that won't be till in a couple of days.

So yes, I get my new Tiger for cheap

Argh! I'll be in Apple Training for Panther Server the day of the release. Do I chance it at the Apple Store in Austin and try to score some swag or just preorder? Hmmm.

That's worth $150.00 right there. Well not really, but that's slick. Boo-hoo for the "new" Blueberry iMac 350 I just picked up (no Firewire) but it'll live on with 10.3 just fine, I suppose.
