Hello Delicious Users,

I'm aware many of you are getting this error when you launch Delicious Library 2:

"You do not have appropriate access privileges to save file "Delicious Library 2" in folder "Applications".

To view or change access privileges, select the item in Finder and choose File > Get Info.

This is because your Library/Scripts folder isn't writable by you, but we're not sure why. We believe some app is setting that folder's privileges incorrectly, which causes the error to pop-up repeatedly. To find out what's causing it, I need you all to go into terminal and type in the following:
ls -laR ~/Library/Scripts

Then copy and paste whatever is returned into a response to this thread.

Thanks much!!

-Terry

So far, it appears as though the problem appears for people who have installed a set of scripts known as "Kinkless" (GTD), which at some point may have had a broken installer which ended up incorrectly locking users out of their own Library/Scripts folder.

To fix this, use the Finder to go to your "Library" folder in your home directory, then click on the "Scripts" folder, and hit command-I, and change the permissions in the bottom pane of the inspector so you own the file (instead of the system).

Do the same for the "Applications" folder inside the "Scripts" folder. Now ALL applications (including Delicious Library 2) can correctly use your Scripts folder.

By the way, I still want you to post the results of the query I mentioned above--we have a hypothesis of what's causing the problem, but want to be sure.

Thanks!

I've had multiple reports of Virtual PC causing the same problem. We've worked around it so that no one gets that error on start-up. Should have a beta of the patch out tomorrow.

Still welcome anyone else's data.

I fixed this problem by changing the permissions of the Scripts folder. I did have Virtual PC installed on my old laptop and it looks like some of it was migrated over to my Macbook. There was a Virtual PC folder in the Scripts folder.

Fixed by changing permissions of ~/Library/Scripts/Applications and adding "user" r/w. (previously was: "system r/w", "staff r", and "everyone r".

~/Library/Scripts already had "user" r/w, as did "~/Library/Script/Folder Action Scripts"

Probably hasn't returned. Might have been something old that migrated in to 10.5 - I rarely use Apple Script, so if another app had an issue with the missing user permission, I might not have noticed.

Not much new info here, but I hope it helps. Thanks.

Just need the listings for those who have the problem. At this point it seems to be just from Kinkless and Virtual PC--just wondering if anything else out there is causing the same problems.

Thanks for the feedback!

I had this problem. Here is my output:

I applied the fix suggested in the forum (giving my user read/write to the two folders) and it's working fine now. Thanks for the help.

Here's my printout. Still no success - changed all the privileges BUT still get the error! what's odd is there is an "unknown" user on to the file I can't delete.

I fixed the problem as suggested earlier by changing the perms on my scripts folder. There was a very old link to a Virtual PC folder in there too left over from at least two laptops ago. I use the Apple Migration utility to transfer to my next Mac and haven't used Virtual PC for years.

Thanks for the help.

This problem has been fixed in the patch 2.0.1 that is now out. When you launch DL2 the next time, you'll get a automatic pop-up offering you the option to update your software. Do it!

-Terry

If anyone still gets this error after updating, please let me know.
