This is the greatest update I've had since 10.3.4 and by far the best update out of Apple today...

I guess they didn't want to be outshined by XP SP2. From what I've read over at ars, there's lots of PCs not rebooting today.

I think I'll express my confidence in the superiority of Apple's updates over Microsoft's by installing this one without waiting for feedback. Apple would never release software with bugs that would hurt me.

Here goes nothing!

Does anyone have an external FW drive that is formatted NTFS? Does this update allow you to actually read/write to the drive...or even have it show up in the finder?

In addition, is there a reason why my ext. FW drive only seems to max out at 8.5mb a second read or write on my rev b 2.0? (its a 7200 RPM WD 160gb in a FW400 enclosure).

Oh boy?? Another update. I'm game but scared to be the guinea pig. Remember the iPhoto update last week and then Apple pulled it the next day and posted a new one 2 days later.

Anyone with any experiences with the new 10.3.5 update?

Do the Desktop icon shadows STILL get messed up? Is there STILL that slight line under unselected windows?

These 2 problems are only seen with some graphics cards.

does this update fix the bug that occurs if you accidently move the mouse while logging out? Currently, it causes the mouse to completely freeze requiring a restart.. It's been since 10.3.2.

Hm... didn't see the security update here. Why didn't they just roll everything into the 10.3.5 update? (or they already did?)

Hm either they changed the 10.3.5 update to include the libpng update, or Software update doesn't have enough smart to detect dependency among uninstalled updates. See here:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25791

At the bottom you'll see:

I just installed and rebooted. Working fine, but a question about safari and mail.
The update said improvments in mail and safari is a newer version, but what exactly is different? Does anyone know?

Im not a big gamer, but I know some of you here (Including me) had serious graphics performance issues with 10.3.4, it's been more than fixed in 10.3.5

You are right!
I did see both update and installed only the 10.3.5 update.
Mow the PNG thingy is gone.

It seems that SWUpdate does not know the PNG is rolled into 10.3.5!

you people have it backwards.

You see both.

You install 10.3.5.

Now PNG update is gone.

BECAUSE IT'S PART OF 10.3.5!!!

SU is smart enough to realize that. That's why it's not there anymore!

One thing I can tell you for sure about Safari, is they improved how it renders large pages.
I have a couple web apps that return large result sets.
Safari used to peg the CPU and bring the whole system to a crawl whenever I would load those pages or switch apps when I had previously loaded a large page.

Now, it's still not quite as good as Camino, but definitely doesn't hammer the CPU the way it used to. It's actually usable in these cases now. (I used to have to force quit and use Camino instead).

These are some of the enhancements included with the Mac OS X 10.3.5 Update.

Bluetooth enhancements

Bluetooth FIle Exchange now works better with Bluetooth-capable Hewlett-Packard printers.
Resolves an issue in which an application that's performing an asynchronous Bluetooth operation could quit unexpectedly, if the computer went to sleep before the data transfer was complete and the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" preference setting was disabled.
Addresses an issue in which Bluetooth File Exchange could unexpectedly quit if you tried to copy several files but one or more of them already existed at the target location.

Networking, Internet enhancements

If you had difficulties connecting to the Internet with a Comcast cable modem and your account uses DHCP configuration (as opposed to PPPoE), then this update can help you connect more easily. If it doesn't, contact Comcast for further assistance. (An example of this issue would be that your computer can't get an IP address when connected to the cable modem, and your Network preferences are set to configure via DHCP.)
Improves the way Safari handles certain kinds of GIFs, including ones that could cause Safari to quit unexpectedly.
Reintroduces shorter server pathnames; the overall limit remains 89 characters, but now only 24 characters (instead of 39 with Mac OS X 10.3 through 10.3.4) are reserved for the beginning of the pathname. More...

Other enhancements

Image Capture can now import MPEG-4 movies (.MP4) from compatible digital cameras.
Resolves a potential data loss issue after renaming a Mail mailbox file.
Addresses an issue for Mac OS X 10.3.4 in which Installer might unexpectedly quit when installing software that has a Japanese name.
Corrects an issue in which analog speakers connected to a PowerBook or iBook during sleep sometimes didn't produce sound after waking the computer.
Resolves an issue with Mac OS X 10.3.4 in which the internal microphones of some iBook (Dual USB) computers would not be available to applications or Sound preferences.

Allows the "Attach" button of Eudora version 6.0 and 6.0.1 to work as expected.
Improves support for NTFS-formatted volumes.

Updates the libpng (Portable Network Graphics) component.

Includes recent Security Updates.

I, too, have had no trouble.

To those who have, I ask whether you:
-ran a disk utility first (e.g. Disk First Aid, DiskWarrior)
-disabled any wonky extensions
before updating.

To those who haven't yet updated, I suggest you do the above before installing the update.

tooki

Edit: P.S. every time an update comes out, somebody has trouble with it (while 99.9% don't). Doing the above is a good way to help prevent it, though sometimes it just happens for no logical reason at all. This has been the case with every update to OS X, so it shouldn't surprise anyone.

I don't know what iChat bug you were talking about, but I had a problem where my iSight would be seen in all applications (even iChat) but no video would come through in iChat only. Just a black screen. That was no resolved.

Also, I think there was something about Safari rendering GIFs differently? Well typing this message is still stuttery on my system because the animated GIFs have my CPU going nuts still.
