As a PC user, Firefox has always been my browser of "choice"
When I recently dumped Windows and came over to OS X, I
wanted to continue using FIREFOX -- particularly for specific
plugins that would not work on any other browser including SAFARI.
For the most part, FIREFOX works fine under OS X....initially.
However, I have read on many message boards about "memory
leaks" within the browser, and I think I have finally experienced
some of them myself.
After a while, FIREFOX starts acting funky. COPY AND PASTE stops
working. Also, if you type any punctuation keys (" ' &), the
cursor jumps somewhere else in the browser page.
Seems like there is some sort of defect in Firefox causing these
problems with Macs.
Anyone else experience these problems?

I would LOVE to go with SAFARI or CAMINO.
Problem is, I run a huge website and there are plugins
for FIREFOX that are essential to my daily operations.
If not for those plugins, and with these problems, I would
ditch FIREFOX in a heartbeat.

Its unlikely those things are the result of a memory leak. They sound more like plain bugs. However I don't use FF on OS X so can't comment on whether they occur for me or not.

I've experienced the copy-and-paste bug in Windows Firefox. Takes several days of the application running before they manifest, however, so it's not something that bothers me much.

Memory leaks don't cause features to stop working. They just cause the browser to use a lot of memory.
Anyway, both copy/paste not working and the browser not working with input boxes (so it does a search-as-you-type jump-around-the-page) happen on both platforms... restart the browser when they happen, or just habitually restart the browser after a few days.

If it's jumping around when you type things, maybe you have search-as-you-type on.
I've never encountered the copy/paste bugs.

I really think your problem has far less to do with Firefox and far more to do with the plugins you use. Try disabling all of them and see what sort of performance you get (I'm betting it'll be great). Once you have Firefox stable, enable one add-on at a time until you find the one that goofs things up.

I have been using Firefox exclusively since Nov. 2004 on both Windows and OSX. As more "add-ons" came out, I thought it was cool to add them even though they were seldom or never used. I had a lot of problems that were likely associated with bugs dealing with conflicts between the add-ons.
I agree with ghporter on this. Only activate the add-ons that you use every day. If you need one for that infrequent special reason, it is easy to activate.
Firefox can be a "lean, mean, browsing machine" if not overly bloated with add-ons seldom used.

On my work PC I experience a bug with find-as-you-type that sometimes prevent it from de-activating and this is precisely the behaviour you experience.

Are you using Firefox 2? There was a bug along those lines with Firefox 1, but I don't think it exists anymore.

NJRonbo you are not alone, this is the most incredibley annoying bug. Memory leak, possibly I couldn't tell you.
Combined with the equally annoying Quickfind 'feature' whereby when typing and you push, oh, I don't know the apostrophe key (hardly used I know), it suddenly switches to the find box.
Initially I thought it was an add-on as well, possibly Greasemonkey, but I have uninstalled everything except the following :
1Passwd
Adblock Plus 0.7.2.4
DOM Inspector
Dragdropupload
Foxmarks
Gmail Manager
Google Notebook
Talkback
Problem continues to occur, it is as I'm sure you've realized, hard to nail down as it does not take a consistent amount of time to kick in.
Any solutions your end, I'd got used to Firefox, now am using Omniweb, pretty but without the extensibility (terrible word) of the Fox.
