It's wonderful these guys survived, but just thinking about this story still give me the creeps.

Video of trapped Chilean miners shows patriotism and humor - CNN.com

I'm not claustrophobic, but the thought of being trapped this way is quite disturbing. I was in a coal mine about 1/2 mile into a mountain (photographing some equipment) many years ago and didn't think anything about it at the time, but I'm not sure I could go back into one today.

I don't think they've been informed that it will take four months to get them out.

I think these guys know enough about mining and their particular mine to know the dig out will not go fast.

True. Though they also know how sensationally lucky they are to be alive, found, in communication and supplied with victuals.

Still, certainly not an easy situation. Doubts and depression must run rampant over the next few weeks.

I think I could handle it. It would be like studying for the bar exam all over again.
But seriously, that small tube providing them with communications, reassurance, and food will also provide them with sanity and hope.

It is the Chile series of Big Brother, but nobody told them they were entered into it.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Depends on the games. Little Big Planet might last me a couple hours.

Texas Hold 'Em would be good for about a day. After that I'd start going a bit wacko.

Now my favorite music, and TV would go a long way.

I can't see the big deal, there are people who have lived in their parents' basements playing MMOs for years living off Mtn Dew and Cheetos.

Seriously, though, not sure I could handle the B.O. and general sanitation issues.

I wonder how much light they have. If the conditions are equivalent to candlelight that'd get old real fast.

I hope they're trying to introduce some type of artificial day-night cycle down there.

I think I could handle the entrapment, but not the inability to shower. Especially in an environment as 'murky' as that.

What do astronauts do?
Even with a small tube, there are a lot of creature comforts that could be sent down. I'm sure they could send down ipods with some spare batteries. . .oh wait, nevermind.

I read that they have several bore holes. I am sure one is being used to pump air down so I don't see how running electrical cables down that one would be a space issue.

The time and confinement sounds feasible to endure. People in submarines have less space than these miners do. However the hot temperatures and filth would be rough to take.

They each got $10,000 bonuses, from what I've just read.

Steve Jobs gave them an iPod touch each, they've got a standing invitation to the Man U vs. Real Madrid game, an offer for holidays in Greece, and probably access to everything and ANYTHING you'd find spam for in a regular inbox.
