BUSH'S GENERAL EDUCATION

Do you have blacks in Brazil?

It is said, that, before September 11, George W. Bush thought the Taliban were a Bavarian brass band. Now, thanks to his comprehensive knowledge, the most powerful man in the world has got into hot water again.

Washington - It was Condoleezza Rice, national security advisor, who helped her boss out of the embarassing situation. During a conversation between the two presidents, George W. Bush, 55, (USA) and Fernando Henrique Cardoso, 71, (Brazil), Bush bewildered his colleague with the question "Do you have blacks, too?"

Rice, 47, noicing how astonished the Brazilian was, saved the day by telling Bush "Mr. President, Brazil probably has more blacks than the USA. Some say it's the Country with the most blacks outside Africa." Later, the Brazilian president Cardoso said: regarding Latin America, Bush was still in his "learning phase".

I'm surprised he didn't add "Do you drag yours behind trucks too? That's what we do in Texas"
&lt;/cheap_shot&gt;

Edit: On the other hand, he could have easily said "Do you let yours <a href="http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20020528/ap_to_po/2000_election_lawsuits_3" target="_blank">vote?</a>

And a great article from such an impartial newsworthy credible web-site.

Let me know when this article hits CNN, FoxNews or the BBC. Until then it's National Enquirer level material.

CARVILLE: Now it's time for a look at those unusual, interesting, and downright shocking stories that you might not find anywhere but in our CROSSFIRE news alert. In case you think we Democrats are too tough on George Bush, I assure you, we usually have good reasons. Listen to this. The German magazine, "Der Spiegel" reports that during last week's European summit, Mr. Bush asked Brazil's president, "Do you have blacks, too?" "Der Spiegel" says National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice had to quickly explain that Brazil probably has a larger black population than the U.S., and perhaps the largest black population outside of Africa.

If the question is open, I want to put up a picture of Pele. He's the man on the right, and perhaps the most famous Brazilian of all time, at one time the most famous human on the planet. He sure looks black to me. Well, maybe he's been in the sun too long. Mr. President, I don't know.

This whole thread cracks me up.

btw, am I the only one who cringe every fscking time Dubya tries to adlib or answer questions NOT in a manuscript? The monkeyman comes off less inteligent than a 8yr old answering questions from the teachers.

I wasn't bothered by the press conference story (argod's other thread), but this one, if true (I'd prefer to see some additional corroboration), is pretty embarrassing, and explains why I didn't vote for him. The man might have some good qualities but being President is another matter altogether.

Saving TN the trouble: "Well, at least he didn't get a blow job and lie about it."

Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

He's vocal enough about other issues (star wars defense, bomb the hell out of iraq, drill in ANWAR) that I just can't buy the act.

And there are many who contend that daddy bought him the Yale degree. He even admits he was pretty much out of it the whole time he was there. Remember, that was before his epiphany...before he stopped drinking.

What makes Bush an especially pathetic case is that he's had a life of privilege, with every opportunity given to him and literally the best education that money can buy, and yet he is still an idiot.

That really tells you something about the guy's mental faculties, or lack thereof.

I don't think Bush is dumb, and I don't doubt that he has some positive qualities to bring to the job, but I do think that a President should be more knowledgeable about world affairs, and more intellectually engaged. As a previous poster suggested, if the President knows less than I do about Latin America, we could be in trouble.

Getting into and attending Yale and Harvard when Bush did wasn't the same as it is now - it's simply what rich kids did, and Bush partied more than he studied. Indeed, Bush has expressed much disdain for the academic experience. I think his anti-elitism has its merits, but I don't think ignorance and a lack of intellectual curiosity does, at least not in a President. You can take the "regular guy" thing too far.

As for the other "qualifications", he was a pilot only because his connections got him into a safe spot in the Guard, and he spent half of that time working on a political campaign. As for "international businessman", as far as I know all of his business ventures failed until his connections enabled him to get in on the baseball venture. I don't condemn him for these things - we're all better at some things than others, and he was a popular Governor, but let's not overstate his talents. Being leader of the free world is a different ball of wax than being Governor of Texas.

That said, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt until the story is corroborated. Like you, I'd be surprised to learn that he would be that ignorant. If he wasn't familiar with Brazil already, I would expect that he would be thoroughly briefed about Brazil before meeting with its President.
