Some interesting changes to the playlists this coming September.

Objective Gametypes have had their appearance frequency reduced.
Crazy King Hill times increased to one minute. Hill Movement set to Sequence (was Random).
-Ranked Big Team Battle
This playlist is retired.
-Introducing Squad Battle
Squad Battle is a Ranked six on six Playlist designed to fill some of the void left by excising Ranked Big Team Battle from the Halo 3 Playlists. Squad Battle gametypes are focused on Slayer and Capture the Flag and this playlist currently requires the Heroic Map Pack.

Social Playlists
-Big Team Social
This playlist is retired.
-Rocket Race
This playlist is retired.
-Multi Team
Rocket Race has been added to the gametypes and set with a low weighting.

DLC Playlists

Since Big Team was cut from Social, eight on eight action is reborn in the overhauled DLC playlists section of Matchmaking. DLC Slayer and Objective are both retired. These playlists require Halo 3 Downloadable Content (at least up through Legendary, but in the case of FFA, it requires all DLC) to participate.

-DLC FFA
This is an eight-player Free For All hopper focused on DLC content. The gametypes contained herein are a mix of Slayer, Objective and Infection modes.
-DLC Big Team
Eight on eight Social Slayer and Objective action (Gametypes from Big Team Social)
Focused on DLC content (Requires both Heroic and Legendary Map Packs)

Hardcore Playlists
-Team SWAT
Objective Gametypes, SWATGuns set to skip after veto
Weighting on all Objective games, SWATGuns and Magnums reduced
Player Damage Resistance set to 150% (was 200%), players no longer spawn with grenades
SWAT map variants now have Carbines and grenades available to pick up.
-Head to Head
This playlist is retired.

Wow that is a lot of changes. Better get my BTB in before it's gone.

I knew Ranked Big Team was gonna get squashed but I don't get why you'd marginalize it by removing from Social, the largest possible population. I suppose Rocket Race isn't much of a loss at this point.

I don't get the Lone Wolves change, but I'd have to assume maps like Epitaph and Guardian would have to be removed from the Hopper, right?

I look forward to trying Squad Battle, though it being ranked couldn't possibly help me right now.

I doubt it's slipped past me, but they haven't even hinted at the next chapter of DLC, have they? I wonder if they're holding it off til spring, as it may be the last major addition (though Halo 2 had a ton of maps, didn't it...)

They're getting rid of BTB? That sucks. I always figured Rocket Race was a goner, because nobody ever seemed to play it regularly, but Big Team Battle ought to stay.

I'm pretty pissed about losing Big Team Social. It was a great "I don't know what to play but I want to find a match quickly" sort of playlist. Ranked BTB was like pulling teeth trying to find a match. Now that BTB will be relegated into the bowels of the DLC playlist you can expect no one to play it.

Squad Battle should kick ass. I really want to get in on the ground floor with this one and I'm very glad they are making it some DLC required. I'm sick of the original maps, if you're to cheap to buy the new maps I say have fun with custom games. Matchmaking should include the new maps in every scenario.

If my memory serves me correctly Halo 2 had just about as many maps as we currently enjoy in 3.

Seriously, I was playing (BTS) friday night and it didn't take long to find matches at all.

What's the advantage of getting in on the ground floor? Games tend to be much more random and lopsided then.

I love how stogie gets pissy after seeing me on playing something other than Halo.

In other news, the handling of cars in Carbon is the polar opposite of GTA 4.

Not that any of us play this with any regularity (outside of stogie), but new achievements coming in the second game update.

Two of them look pretty outrageous to get

Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7 (0 points) – Enter into any ranked or social playlist with 7 EXP on the 7th of the month.
WTF?

Vidmaster Challenge: Annual (0 points) – After 9/25/08, complete Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.
On Ghosts the whole time? Are there even Ghosts at the beginning of the game?

I hope to god they are 0 points, and are there just for bragging rights.

Edit: 7 is important to bungie (7th column), and they mean on the last level instead of warthogs. I do recall a ghost tucked away somewhere, but not 4 of them.

Is there even a timeline for the second update (or when the Fall update comes out for that matter)?
