Apparently the new iPad minis with retina are not very accurate with color. In fact, they are kinda off. A lot. It's really a 'grains of salt' thing, but if you rely on color accuracy you may want to do your own research before buying this model. Or just don't worry about it and get on with your life. cheers!

It's a grains of salt thing, but I'd use terms other than "inaccurate" and "off" to describe a smaller color gamut.
Don't get me wrong, that blows, but for me "wrong" and "off" is blue looks like green. Smaller gamut means "inferior panel".
Which, ultimately, they all are because I want 16-bits.

How many people will use their Retina iPad Mini for tasks that require color accuracy? Mine will arrive tomorrow and I'll use it to read news, check the weather, read books, etc. and don't care much for color accuracy but really care about speed and responsiveness. It seems folks are looking for ways to rain on Apple's parade and drive traffic to their websites.

Without some way to calibrate it, doing any sort of serious color work on an iDevice seems like a losing proposition.

Most people would consider cell phones and tablets to be devices used to consume or view content, not create content.

People that do reply upon color accuracy will be disappointed. If you don't notice or don't care, that's great. I noticed and will not be buying until next revision.
edit: even stupid crap like the color of shirt on a web site will be off. If you're going through a paint catalog and going through samples, that too will be way off.
edit: first world problems are petty, aren't they?

All iPads are "off". The display is meant to be "punchy" not accurate.

No they're not. See the results for the iPad 4 and the iPad Air in that very article - those are really good numbers. For some reason the minis are significantly worse.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

I don't care at all. I'm no color expert and don't pretend to be.

I've heard that it's a cost/availability issue. They might not have been able to get enough screens if they insisted on the same color fidelity as the larger iPad. A bit disappointing, although it's really minor compared to the compromises forced on people buying the previous gen mini.

Well, there you go. Went from punchy to accurate and I didn't notice.
