Anyone know of an application that will track your system during an installation and tell you what was installed/changed?
I have a program that comes with a custom installer (i.e. no package to snoop through, and no installation log) and makes changes to system files and installs new ones. I want to see what all gets installed and where.
I would like to find an app that you run before the installer and it makes note of the current file system. Then you run the installer and let it do its thing. Then you run the application again and it compares its pre-installer snapshot with the current system and displays all the changes.
Currently I use the terminal and "sudo ls -la > before", then install, then "sudo ls -la > after" and then "diff before after" but I know there's got to be a better way
I've already done a search but came up with nothing useful.
