Apple-VW iCar in the works?
August 30, 2007 - 10:42AM

US computer company Apple and German automaker Volkswagen are discussing the possibility of building an "iCar" which would feature products by the producer of the ubiquitous personal music player.

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs and Volkswagen's chief Martin Winterkorn met several days ago in California, and plan to meet for further discussions, said Hans-Gerd Bode, a spokesman for VW.

There are "scores of ideas", but few concrete plans at this point, Bode said.

Market experts have estimated that a compact car upgraded with Apple products would be of substantial interest to young target groups, according to German financial magazine Capital.

Volkswagen also has plans to produce an affordable compact car with prices starting at 6000 euro ($10,000).

it´s such a weird idea to have such a boring manufacturer like VW combined with the stylish attitude of Apple...

... some Jonathan Ives-design would be good for VW. But will VW-Design be good for Apple? The company would fit better with IBM.

VW isn't seen as so boring in the US. They have quite a different image here.

That´s really funny. And of course it´s good news.
I worked a lot for VW in the past - and it´s definitely a good and reliable company.

It's for a concept car, not a production car.

The steering wheel will be replaced by the click-wheel.

I've always compared VW to Apple as far as design and image goes. I own a VW Golf, and of course lots of Apple stuff. They both make very solid, reliable, well thought out products. I am looking forward to this partnership. I hope it produces the Apple-integrated car I've been wanting for a long time.
