Greetings.

We have a couple Xserves that are connected to our Foundry 10/100Base-T switch via the standard 10/100/1000Base-T ethernet ports that come with the Xserve.

Our switch has 8 GB ethernet ports but they're not copper, they're fiber. Since we're currently hosting about 50 user's home directories on the Xserve and providing network login functionality, it would be nice to eliminate the bottleneck between the switch and the Xserve by connecting them with GB ethernet.

To do this, I need a fiber PCI GB ethernet card in the Xserve. Has anyone set up an Xserve with a fiber GB ethernet card? Can anyone recommend a brand that has drivers for MacOS X?

Thanks in advance.

You should contact Apple about this. In their intial press release, they mentioned an "optional fiber Gigabit Ethernet adapter" which would be guaranteed OS X-compatible.

Check out the Asante one at

http://www.asante.com/products/adapt...0sx/index.html

It has drivers for 10.2 and later. I found it via http://guide.apple.com/

We are using the Asante GigaNIX 1000SX in one of our Xserves, and it's been working great since August. This was recommended by an engineer from Apple.
