hello,

Is there a way to find your idisk ip address?

I wish to use a 3rd party ftp client like "Transmit" to access my idisk . Is there a way to do this?

thanks,

Destin

I don't believe iDisk supports FTP. It only supports AFP and WebDAV. The server is idisk.mac.com.

hmmmmmm....

do you know of a way to access idisk through the terminal?

And if so, is it faster than the finder?

I am having so much truoble with the finder hanging up, crashing, or files not transfering completely.

any ideas?

Thanks,

Destin

The finder problems are usually caused by using AFP to access the idisk instead of webdav, although the default should be webdav. Try both out manually and see if either work better. in the finder "go" menu select "connect to server" and type:

http://idisk.mac.com/yourusername

for webdav and then to try out AFP do:

afp://idisk.mac.com/yourusername

see if one method works better than the other.

Also Panther will add some more features to help out with these problems as well.

the afp connection take longer to connect, however the upload speed is definately better.

Thank you.....

Does any know how to connect to idisk through the terminal?

Is it faster?

Thanks again

You can connect to the iDisk using the Finder as normal, but use the Terminal for your file-management, if you prefer.

Just cd to
/Volumes/idiskname/
and cp away merrily.

All the Finder does is call the system-wide mount_webdav command anyway.

Adobe GoLive connects to web DAV servers, and I use it to update my idisk, since I keep a fair amount of my homepage stuff on it. It's always been pretty quick and reliable, compared to the Finder.

thanks everyone

Just cd to
/Volumes/idiskname/
and cp away merrily.

nice, simple and sweet

golive is a resonable option, however, I work mostly in Flash developement, and it sucks to have to fire up golive just to update some swfs, etc. Maybe I am just lazy. I wll try it and see.

I will also check out goliath.

Thank you all for your help,

Destin
