The Universal movie Steve Jobs, a fictionalized account of the co-founder of Apple loosely based on his biography but centered around three key product launches, has been nominated in two categories for the 88th annual Academy Awards ceremony. While the film has already received wide critical praise and two Golden Globe awards (for Best Screenplay and Best Actress in a Supporting Role), the Oscar nominations again recognize Kate Winslet for Best Supporting Actress, while offering Michael Fassbender a nod for Best Actor.

In the film, Winslet played early Mac team member and Apple marketing guru Joanna Hoffman. Other nominations in the category include Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), Rooney Mara (Carol), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), and Rachel McAdams (Spotlight). Fassbender will be competing against Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant), who was once up for the role of Jobs himself; as well as Matt Damon (The Martian), Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl), and Bryan Cranston (Trumbo).

Unlike with the Golden Globes, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin was not nominated for best screenplay, nor was director Danny Boyle nominated in either award competition. The Academy Awards will be announced on February 28.

May they win nothing and be completely humiliated for agreeing to perform in a hit piece like this.
