Tom Smothers has passed. He was 86.

I actually had the great pleasure to meet the man, many years ago. He was a lovely, funny, guy. And, the stuff he did with the yo-yo

Imagine being a couple of musical comedians and suddenly your show is cancelled for being too politically relevant. Without them there'd be no colbert or daily show.

Pretty much right after the show was cancelled, Tom went to Europe, and wound up in Amsterdam. Where John and Yoko were staying. And he’s featured on “Give Peace a Chance”. Side note: the “percussion” on that recording was basically people hitting a table; listen to it and you’ll hear just that.

Anyway, Tom and Dick were way ahead of their time with just about everything they did. And let’s be clear: they were really good at what they did. They were good musicians, good actors, and created some amazing stuff. I got to see Dick in a play in the 1977 of 1978, and he was great. But let’s think about this…Tommy could riff on subjects (or keep up with prewritten lines, there was no way to tell) while doing yo-yo tricks (which worked). That’s a pretty amazing talent.

Tom, now you get a chance to see that your mom didn’t always love your brother best…
