What is the method to reformat a harddisk under OSX???

Use Disk Utility.

You can access it by booting off of the OS X install CD and then opening it from one of the menus. You can also do it from within OS X by going into your Applications folder and then into your Utilities folder. And then just use the default format type, 'Mac OS Extended (Jounaled)'.

Be sure to check the box to install OS 9 drivers. You may not need it, but it only takes a few KB of space, and makes the drive accessible to OS9 utilities.

This might come up if repairs are needed in the future, or if your system dies and you need to recover the files from the HD with someone else's Mac.
