If I take my iPhone with me when I'm out of the country, am I going to get charged extra for receiving text messages? What about sending?

Nevermind, apparently it's 50¢ per text message sent or received.

That's the dealbreaker for me.

It is called Roaming, no difference with making or receiving phone calls. That said, it is usually cheaper to send or receive a text message while roaming than to make or receive calls ~

Holy crapola! 50¢?
I pay 10¢ per SMS sent (receiving is free) when I’m abroad, and I think that’s expensive.

Yeah, texting in the US kinda sucks.
I will probably send an SMS or two abroad next week, but only enough for me to find my friend who's meeting me in Rome. After that the iPhone goes into airplane mode unless there's a WiFi network for me to get on.

Only applies when you're in the US sending and receiving messages. Same charges still apply if you're outside the US.

Depends on the plan.
I used to pay 20¢ Canadian for international text messages when I was in Europe. At the time that worked out to about 17¢ US.

Verizon is now charging $0.20 to send AND receive. I'm glad I have a real plan.
