So, uh… been a while, I guess… But when I was trying to think of where I might be able to find someone who'd know the answer to this, good ol' MacNN came to mind.

I have a set of the original Harman Kardon SoundSticks (yes, from 2000). It sounds like one of the cones in one of the speaker towers is starting to go, so I'm thinking that I could probably replace just that speaker. There's actually a few of the originals on eBay (in the $50 neighborhood, so actually not too bad), but I only need to replace the one speaker, so does anyone know a good place that I could look for one of those? Also, anyone happen to know if a speaker for a SoundSticks II/III system would be compatible, if I were able to find one of those?

You really should come by more -- we've changed the main news page a lot. Anyway, as I understand it, the the Sticks II speakers are compatible, where the III are not, but it's a PITA job.

Are you talking the USB sound sticks, or the line-in ones?

USB.

The original SoundSticks use what is either an RCA component connector or something very similar t connect the satellites to the subwoofer. Did they stop using that for the IIs? Otherwise, not sure why it would be a PITA to swap them out.

I haven't done the job myself, a buddy did, and he described it as such. So, I'm afraid I have no specifics on the nature of the PITA.
