Ehm.... whow! Where the bloody h*ell did you get these pictures? Good job though!

Not sure if I like the styling, I gotta tell ya... the panther on the background of the boxes and on the fore of the CD just seems....over the top. I'm somewhat surprised that these are ready though, 'cause I thought we'd have to wait a while after WWDC for 10.3. But oh well, good for us!

<edit> On second thought, these look fake to me... The blask box simply looks like the white one, except for hte fact that the colors have been inversed. Dunno, seems weird. Also, the web ad looks way too dark and it uses the Jag 'X' that has been made to look darker. (Though that is the color of some jaguars, dark spots on a darker background.)</edit>

Sorry.

The most telling part of this fake would be that the "r" in "Upgrade" and "n" in version on the upgrade CD are out of line with the other letters.

Oh, and why would Apple have the panther facing a different way on the retail box and the upgrade CD?

Sorry, no sale.

Lol, I didn't even see that. You're right though, definitely out of line. The styling isn't Apple-like either. Didn't take long to debunk this one...

Another thing, the 'X' in the first 2 pics is black while in the last pic its brushed metal.

Bwahaha! Those are quite pathetic. A particular 12 year old I know could do better than this.

Why do people even try? Are these script-kiddies just so eager to impress themselves with the copy of Photoshop they just leeched off of Carracho?

Man, whoever it was couldn't even be bothered to acquire Myriad to type "Panther 10.3" after Mac OS X. I guess Geneva looked close enough for them.

And that first image with the black box? Utterly sad, they didn't even take the time to erase the inverted black background in a straight line around the box.

I won't even go into the rest. Not sure if kevinxli actually made these to try to look cool, but I wouldn't blame anyone for posting these after finding them somewhere else. Not everyone has an eye for telling whether something has been photoshopped or not.

In any case, perhaps the uninitiated can learn from these so that they can tell when an image has been altered. And perhaps some Photoshop pros could try to truly take us for a loop once in a while by creating something convincing.

Verticallly grained brushed metal, at that. And the Jaguar in that picture is going the other way. That alone breaks all the rules of branding, and identity.

I like the look of the black box at the top, but the poster with the cat? Ugh. I can almost smell its bad breath.

How about the fact that the 3rd picture down still has the Jaguar spots but it just has a black layer over it with some lesser level of opacity. Or that in the last picture, the panther is totaly distorted (along with reversed) than the first two.

The first two boxes look cool but that's about it.

In that last pic you can bubles in the left bottom part of the X where the glue didn't set right. Thats what Apple gets for outsourcing stuff to 12 year olds

the first one is made by taking the second one opening it in photohop then pressing command-i to invert the picture, not only is the black and white inverted but the apple is orange (the inverse of blue)

These Photo-chop jobs take all of 5 minutes, and they're not that hard:

We'll have to wait 'til the WWDC to get real pics (and, of course, Carracho leaks. )

If he had of just posted the 2nd box pic, it might have been believable.

Nope. Apple isn't using Apple Garamond anymore. They are using Myriad now.

I like this one. I like the first one posted too (the inverted one). Just smooth out the problem areas and it would look nice.

I like the Pink Panther one myself. Apple probably wouldn't use it though as it would be infringing copyrights wouldn't it? I'd like to think they would do a Pink Panther logo; it fits their sense of humour.

I did not understand a word of that except that you apparently had bad sex with an artist.

that apple insider box is cool, but apples branding is usually more abstract. putting eyes on the box is too literal for apple. from a marketing standpoint, animal eyes staring at the viewer isn't good as it begins to feel threatening, a feeling apple really doesn't want to portray, nor do most brands.

The white box with the black X and the black cat is from a German Apple magazine called MacLife.
They printed that picture on their last page as a preview for the next issue.

I don't think it's the real box.

Wasn't the Pink Panther IBM's 'mascot' in the late 80's or early 90's. After Charlie Chaplin (80s) -> some viking geezer -> Pink Panther...

I think after that Lou Gerstner took over as CEO from John Akers and that marked the end of them characters in IBM marketing. IBM were definitely more fun before biscuit & cookies CEO took it over
