wait woah. maybe i was asleep for the hype over the ipod mini, I guess i didn't see any disections of it.
but the battery on the 4g is stuck to the click wheel (at least what it says on the above link)?
is this an ok thing? am i missing something?
how are we supposed to replace our batteries if they start to die? It was a snap to do it on my 2g 10 gig... will it even be possible on my 4g 20 gig?
no one seems concerned about this?!?
ipod why have you forsaken me?!?!?!

A quick Google search for "ipod mini dissection" revealed this

As for noone being concerned... it's been about 4 hours in the wee hours of the night (for most Americans anyways). I'm sure we'll hear a lot of rambling and all that fun come morning

When will the www.ipoding.com people learn to use the damned macro mode? In every one of their dissections, the pictures are grainy (from using too little light) and blurry.

sorry i suppose i was mistaken when i made my original post because now i can't find any reference to the Ipod mini having the same "battery stuck to the click wheel" situation as the new 4G seems to... but what i was referring to is how ipodding's main page says

"The battery is stuck to the Click Wheel module, which is welded to the face. We didn't bother removing the battery, as it was late in the day and the Click Wheel's ribbon connector, stuck under it, would be too easy to damage. "

which makes it sound like battery replacement could be a new battle
ipod why have you forsaken me?!?!?!

well i suppose i'm the only bastard cheap enough to care but it does seem like yes the battery is fixed in place and only apple can replace it now.
ipodlounge's review says:
"At this point in time, our only issue with the battery is that it's not user-removable or replaceable. Though Apple will replace your battery for you, you will pay $60 to $100 for that service, assuming that it fails outside of your warranty period. On the bright side, the company generally provides excellent in-warranty service, and the chance that you'll need to replace the battery before the two-year mark is quite small. We don't consider this a major issue, but it's an issue nonetheless."

I would just link to it but they are changing servers so for the next day or two that review is just at www.ipodlounge.com and they will probably change that link soon enough.

yeah everyone else laughed at that product cycle and i just thought to myself "oh my goodness... this ipod battery thing really does feel like its life or death"

i would seek counseling but the only way i can think to do that is to post on macnn with a subject line like "counseling for apple obsession?"
