hi all

got home thought i'd charge my 30g ipod photo.

message came up not recognizing my ipod...thought 'but you know it! SURELY! COME ON!

when i try to eject in a number of ways get a 'in use by other applications' message.

reset the ipod.
wiped the ipod in software restore.
restarted.
unplugged the ipod.
(all of these things were done twice and not in that order).
also i wasn't using anything else.
plugged it in again.

seems to know the ipod.

BUT

won't let me plonk songs in
and
again i can't eject without the 'files in use by other apps' comes up.

grrr...

edit...it gets worse
now the ipod won't open in itunes and itunes claims no ipod is selected!

ideas?

I don't know it, and stop calling me Surely.

----

Run the Disc Utility. Verify / Repair

----

A few questions:

1. Do you use Windows? Yes? check for usb device conflict or problem. No? > 2.
2. Do you have updates for iPod? iTunes? (4.9)
3. What did the Disc Utility do?
4. Do you get any graphics on the screen?
5. Do you ever use any other service besides iTunes and putting in your own audio CDs?

Have you the extended warranty?
Where did you buy it? (iPod / Warranty)

for a little while it did.

then everything went extra bad, as in very annoying.

took it to the apple store, they replaced it as the hard drive had died...

no, it was still under warranty...which is good thing.
what annoyed me at the time was the vagueness of a lot of the apple on line help: they don't want to mention the possibility of a hard drive crash at all!
