What's the best way to copy DVD's?

Short summary:

DVDBackup to rip the DVD to disk and remove CSS and region code:

DVD2oneX to shrink it down to 4.4GB (the maximum you can burn on a DVD-R):

And Toast to burn the resulting VIDEO_TS folder onto DVD-R.
