He might be referring to a cushion of air that the drive arm balances on.
But that has nothing to do with gravity and everything to do with barometric pressure.

I should probably post this is the iPod forum, but since I NEVER go in there *shudder* I'll ask here:
Does the iPod work without batteries if it is plugged into the AC adapter/charger?
