I just wanted to announce the new release of my software update tracking application, UpdateRadar.

Version 3.0 adds several new features, including:
- Exclusive use of <a href="http://www.macupdate.com" target="_blank">MacUpdate's</a> database for up to the minute coverage of releases.
- Completely redesigned interface built from the ground up. Everything is now completely customizable.
- UpdateRadar can now link to programs on your local hard drive and compare their versions ot the newest versions on MacUpdate.
- Brand new "Today's Programs" window displays all programs that have been released in the last 24 hours.

Please feel free to check out the <a href="http://www.ricciadams.com/programs/updateradar/" target="_blank">UpdateRadar website</a>.

Screenshots can be located on <a href="http://www.ricciadams.com/programs/updateradar/sshots.html" target="_blank">this page</a> .

At least being able to compare both sites. To see if they update more than the other. So that you aren't getting an old version from any given site. And was the last version UpdateRadar 2? I think you're going a little version crazy <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I think that like with Adium and OS X, these kind of things are .1 releases. Like when Adium gets a .1 release.. something big has changed. A 1.0 revision.. well then it's something completely different. But it it looks good though (too bad I can't try it out for myself )

I know that it is a lot faster than the Versiontracker databse in UpdateRadar 2 (which parsed HTML rather than using a direct XML feed).

The last version was indeed 2.0. I use the following version numbering scheme: +1.0.0 for major releases, +0.1.0 for minor releases, +0.0.1 for bug fixes.

Keep in mind that UpdateRadar 3 was completely rewritten from the ground up to integrate tightly with MacUpdate's database. It also features a highly customizable interface that UR2 simply didn't have. I think that this constitutes a major release

Thanks for your post!

I am really surprised at the lack of responses for this app. Do you know how insanely great it must be? (sure I've never tried it.. heh) I even considered writing it myself before. I think the problem is that you all don't know -what- it is.

Well essentially..

It gets all your applications and then compares their versions to that of the current versions of MacUpdate (currently). This allows you to keep your software up to date. Eliminating those little bugs that annoy you to hell. You can also search the site for any software you need ala Watson's versiontracker search. Does this really not interest you guys? Any download logs Ricci?

Very slick. The attention to detail is superb, for instance the icon in the dock reflecting the number of files with updates available a-la mail.app. Very, very nice. This is the kind of thing I would consider giving my father, as he really sucks at keeping up to date. "OK dad. Click the button that says search. Scroll through that list and add the following applications". Then we add it to his startup items, and he's good to go.
You may find that the folks on this forum visit MacUpdate and Versiontraker every day, anyway, just to keep hip on what's new. I may test drive this thing a bit more and see what else it offers.
Excellent program.
