I just wanted to see how the administrators and community felt about increasing the options for the number of posts per page.

With active/popular threads, the current limit of 40 means a lot of page flipping in some threads. With the average home broadband connection, even a 500 post page can load in seconds. I realize this puts more load on the db server, but perhaps there's capacity to spare.

Increasing the limit to 100 or 200 would be much appreciated. I believe mods are already able to see more per page because sometimes the page numbers they've mentioned are lower than the page numbers I see at 40 posts/page.

1) Default is 50 per page

2) It's not about bandwidth, it's about the hampstor-width, which we are always short of at 'NN. Doubling the comment count from 50 to 100 would effectively double the workload for long threads.

Thanks, it would be nice if they noted that. The options are:
Use Forum Default
Show 5 Posts Per Page
Show 10 Posts Per Page
Show 20 Posts Per Page
Show 30 Posts Per Page
Show 40 Posts Per Page

So it's unintuitive that the forum default is higher than the highest option.

I'm well aware of that. My only comment about bandwidth was w/r/t the client end; when everyone was on dialup, loading multiple 200 comment pages would be painful. I specifically mentioned the increase in database server load.

No no more. Any more and my PSP would take forever to load pages.

I would like 1 comment per page, I like fast page loads.

I'm not saying the default should be more, just that there should be an option for more. By all means keep the default low to reduce hamsterbase load.
