I just got my new 20in Core Duo imac.
I am having a problem playing CS:Source at full res. It's drops frames. My friends 17in imac plays it fine at 1440x900. So I lowered the res to somthing like 1280x768. Still he says it does not look as smooth as his. Any ideas?

Sorry I couldn't reply earlier, I saw this before, but I had to go. The x1600, while being a good GPU, cannot play CS:S at 1680x1050. The "x1" before the name doesn't denote much other than a small architecture change. The x1600 is more closely related to the 9600 than it is to the x800 or the x1800. I suggest turning your resolution down, and for gods sake who needs HDR? Away with it!

It is a universal binary? Yes? Because if its running in rosetta, then you have got no hope. The reason I ask such a simple question that I guess I already know the answer to is that you say your friends 17" iMac does it fine..

No, he's running it under boot camp. CS:S is produced by valve, and valve only makes games for PC.

Ok, omg, you gotta do this. Soon I'm gonna get the same 20" iMac as you, and I play CS:S, but I don't know if it's gonna run well. Can you:
run boot camp and start up CS:S with nothing else open
set the resolution to 1680x1050
set all the settings to medium and turn HDR off
start up a game
open console and put this in: cl_showfps 2
it'll show how many fps you're getting
then write it down and post it here
I want to see how well the x1600 does with CS:S.
