My first post ,need some advice

I know I should get a Mac Pro (just too much money for a student, and I travel around every couple of months on plane so I can't really take a Mac Pro with me). With an iMac I can possibly take it as a carry on... i mean the 17" isn't that big.

I have a powerbook already... G4 1.67 ghz last rev of the powerbook line (rather sad if you ask me, i don't know if its up for doing intensive graphics/video stuff as I hoped for). So I am looking for another computer possibly like the 17" iMac but I am not sure how it is with video editing?

Or should I just forget about the iMac, sell my 17" powerbook (how much are they worth these days? I already maxed out the RAM its ok for editing and graphics just a bit slow) and wait for the soon to be updated (i hope) Macbook Pro?

Or is the macbook Pro up for it?

Programs I use: final cut, after effects, logic pro
(yes i know i should get a mac pro)

An upgraded MBP or iMac should be more than up for the task. Alot of RAM and a fast CPU are important for editing. A 17" MBP with 2GB of RAM and a 7200-RPM HDD or an iMac Core Duo 20" with 2GB of RAM should suit you nicely. The MBP would be a little faster, but the difference may not be all that huge.

Seriously though, if a 1.67Ghz PB ain't doin so hot for you, a Mac Pro may be the way to go.

You are not going to want to tote a 17" iMac as carry on with you. It will be WAY much more trouble than it is worth. I have an Intel iMac and I love it, but as nice and compact the design is, it is NOT a replacement for a mobile computer by any standards. Do yourself a favor and buy a MacBook Pro when you get the chance. The power will be sufficient and you will be so mobile.
