One of my friends bought an auto charger for his pbg4, and it fried the battery. anyone have problems similar to this?

No, but the 1GHZ uses a different charger than other PBs. I have used auto adapters with everything from a PB DUO 280 C up to my 12" PB. Never a problem, including with the PB Ti 800. But the 1GHZ uses more juice, if that was what your friend plugged in.
