Anybody out there played around with this package that claims to be a "Document Management and Scientific Wordprocessing System for MacOS X?" One needs to install FrontBase, which I don't know anything about, to use the demo and I didn't want to do this on my production system. Enter the joy of MacNN forums! A quick search revealed several mentions but no evaluations...

Any details about stability, flexibility, ease of use, and, most importantly, handling of FIGURES would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

It is a really great idea (using database storage for document production and such), but I don't think the company has made much progress on the app in the past year. I think they've run out of steam a bit. So, it works, but it isn't finished.

More importantly, I think they made a dumb mistake tying it so closely to LaTeX. It'd be better to base it on XML, and then use LaTeX as one possible output format.

It won't hurt you to install the required apps though (Frontbase is a well-respected product), so why not try yourself?
