People over at discussions.apple.com
are reporting that their credit cards are being charged today even though they have already had an authorization charge. Could this be a sign?

I hope so. My cc doesn't show a charge on line but my available credit is off from the max by the cost of the MBP. My original shipping date was 2/15 (1.83) and then was changed to 2/23 (2.0).

From what I recall FedEx ships out around 7am local time in that part of the world. Maybe a load of MPBs will be on a plane in another 7 hours or so.

That may indeed be a good sign! I'm on a little later shipping so I haven't seen that yet, anyone else seen their cards being charged?

Apple attempted to charge my card late on 2/15 - but due to my credit card company being a little overly precautious, withheld the charge until I called yesterday morning - which I did immediately. I then called Apple to make sure the charge went through - they processed it while I was on the phone. I'm in the cue for a 2.0 ghz... my current ship date shows 2/28

So now I'm waiting for an update on my shipping information...

FYI - I ordered on 1/10 - 10:58am...

Have seen a few screenshots - all seem to be 2.0s. Also, for those that report when they ordered, the times are all early - before 11:15 am PST.

Keep em rolling, I want mine...

I just checked the Apple site and it says my MacBook Pro has Shipped...hooray.

Shipped - Feb 18, 2006 via FEDERAL EXPRESS

Qty. Product
1 MBPRO 15/2.0/1X1G/100/256VRAM/SD-USA

Order Date: Jan 10, 2006 at 07:54 PM PST

Definitely interested. Only strange part is that today is the 17th and the status shows the 18th...hmmm.

Anyway, the extra "Crucial" 1gig RAM is waiting at home to bring this beast to full life when it arrives.

I haven't seen any BTO. It looked like they're shipping a 1.83 today, when they said next week for those to start.

I saw one person in the Apple forums state his card was just charged for a BTO order he placed on Jan 25th. If this is true then it seems Apple is able to fulfill many more orders more quickly than expected.

So, my order shipped, hooray!!!! . . . or, er, maybe it shipped, huh? I don't know. check this out:

The widget says shipped, but the actual Apple page does not, and the Apple page was refreshed AFTER the widget said it was shipped. Anyone have an idea why this happened? I'm trying to not get my hopes up. I guess I should also note that my ship date on the apple page still says Feb. 15th, which of course makes no sense. Ordered Jan. 11th, 1:08am, CTO w/ 120GB.

ok, i figured it out, and i'm glad my hopes weren't too far up. apparently the widget just looks at the "estimated ship by date" and uses that to figure the status. since my order is still stuck at Feb. 15th, the widget thinks the order has already shipped. it seems weird that the widget doesn't actually just check the status itself to report it, but it doesn't—rendering the widget a lot less useful. <-- am sad

Well I just now was able to place the new order for the 2.16ghz model. I had to wait for the money for the original order to get refunded to my card, before I could. I did it over the phone as opposed to online so I could tell the nice Apple people that I my original order was seconds after the end of the keynote and maybe they could take this into account. Shipping date is now March 20th!

For someone who originally had the earliest estimated ship date (7th of February) this comes as a bit of a kick in the nadular region.

But that said, at least it will be faster!

I checked my status at the Apple Store, and saw that my attention was needed immediately. Since I ordered my MB so long ago, the credit card I used expired, so I had to give a new one. I guess that means that it will be en-route soon!

So are you the first confirmed CTO that has shipped? Also, has anyones 2.16 order been shipped, or moved to earlier than the 16th of March?

You weren't supposed to actually cancel your order. Note that you call the # listed and ask them to make a change on your order. As such, you sound like you're at the back of the line.

That may be the case in the UK. In the USA we have been able to upgrade our machines, my 2.16 has the same order number as the original 1.83.

Yeah, it sucks the way I've had to do it. I even called and asked if my order priority could be elevated but they told me that since it's such a new product, they can't do that.

Interesting. Originally I was told the same thing, but then I forwarded them the email I got and after looking into it they could upgrade it. It would be nicer if they could've had a plan they could share in advance with their reps.

I'm surprised they didn't use an online system to handle most of these changes. It would have been nice to just go on and make the adjustment in the order yourself and see the impact.

It's a funny story (I thought a sad one up until now). The morning of the 14th I found out about the 2.16 so I called Apple and talked to them. They assured me that I couldn't upgrade to a 2.16 without cancelling my order and losing my place in line (I ordered minutes after I left the keynote).

I cancelled my original 1.83 order and created a new 2.16 order. It said at the time shipping on 2-17 so I thought good deal!

Then, someone at Apple actually called me to tell me that my order was a web glitch and there was absolutely no way possible that it would ship on the 17th and instead it was 3-4 weeks away, around mid-march. I asked to talk to a supervisor to make sure I got the straight story, same thing no way possible.

So, I resigned to wait then got the shipping notice this morning. All I can say is Apple doesn't seem to have a clear channel between logistics and customer service...

Great.. you ordered on the 14th, also a CTO, and yours shipped before mine which I ordered on the 19th of January. I'll bet the 2.16 started a new line and since you placed an order before I called to have my 2.0 changed, you are ahead of me in line. I guess It's good news that a 2.16 has shipped. Was your estimated ship date March 16th like everyone else's? Also, could you post a screen shot of your cto options with the blotted out tracking number?

I'm really getting excited now!!!

Well, I ordered mine 2.0 CTO (120 GB HD) on Jan 10, 2006 at 07:03 PM PST, and it still shows est. ship by February 28. The funny thing is that my credit card shows lower available credit by the amount of my MBP.

Perhaps I'll have confirmation of shipment earlier than Apple's "estimate," which would be sweet. Of course, this would be a great detriment to my studying for a huge physiology exam on Thursday.

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output
