You forget battery life.
Most of the stuff you listed will give slight performance improvements, and will probably decrease battery life.
I wouldn't mine 802.11n, but the spec hasn't been finalized.

I'd absolutely LOVE to see 5400rpm drives become standard, with 7200 as an option, and 128mb vram standard on high end 15 and 17" 'books with 256 optional.

Have:
30GB 5G iPod

dual 2GHz is way out of reach, but, dual 1.25 or 1.42 would be great.
As I said in another thread:
kill iBook (it's just a crippled 12" anyhow)
kill 17" PB (too big, and for what?)
keep 12" PB
keep 15" PB
Create some sort of portable but bad battery life dual CPU thing with 4 RAM slots. 9 Pounds, 1 hour battery life, who cares, just portable power.

Hey,
Speak for yourself about the 17". I've had all three powerbooks, and to me the 17" is the best. Maybe because the size of it doesn't bother me, since the 15" isn't much smaller. But at this point the 12" screen is pretty inferior, the 15" battery stinks, and both get hotter than the 17".
As for the 12" ibook, some might say kill the 12" powerbook. For many people, the cheaper ibook is their way into the Macworld. If anything at this point, the powerbooks are metal ibooks with a few more features. Prior to the recent upgrade (which wasn't the greatest) the 12 ibook and powerbook was very similar.
Have you owned a 17" powerbook before? I think before you put it down, you may want to own it first. I think there is a demand for each, but if any of the 3 is to have the major power, it will probably be the 17"

You're missing the point trying to be all protective of your baby. There is too much overlap.
The iBook and the 12" are pretty close (one can drive two screens)
and the 15" and the 17" are pretty close (slightly larger screen res)
====
How's this:
some sort of 12"
some sort of 15"
some sort of large battery killing dual CPU thing with 4 ram slots

I am using the Belkin Pre-N wireless router and it is SOOO much better than Airport Extreme so I agree with you on this.
A battery that REALLY last 2 hours (a DVD movie) as a minimum should be the standard for all laptops, regretfully we dont have it in our beloved PB

I have my PB 17 fully loaded and this is the best laptop apple has ever released it the high end gun and as such it should be top of the line in innovation
I agree with killing the PB12 the ibook 12 provides the cheaper solution that attracts larger sales
I would make change the ibook 14" LCD for a 15" and also kill the PB15"!

I'd go for higher res 15 inch screen. dual core 1.5GHz (preferably faster though) G4 with a separate HD decorder chip and the option for a mobile 9800 card.

only if you're doing a lot of video/audio work, etc.
if you're just doing laptop things (office apps, web, design/layout) then you won't see a benefit from such an increase in bus speed as you would from a larger L2 cache.
that being said, i voted for the dual G4 simply because that will include the larger L2 cache and an overall massively upgraded architecture.

larger L2 and L3 cache would certainly expedite speed and if coupled with the 800mhz FSB then we would really see an improvent

As the poll clearly indicates the majority of PB users know that the bottleneck in performance is the slow FSB (167mhz vs Windows 800mhz) since the motherboard is the medium to connect everything

How about keep the 17" and kill the 15", what's the use of a 15" anyway? Paperweight?

The 15" is far more popular than the 17".

The lineup Apple has right now is the best its ever been. If the lineup was failing in some way, Apple would kill a product.
The iBook is important to the lineup. Its a very chap alternative for home consumers and students. Its also a great seller.

Oh I see, it goes by popularity. Well then, let's just get rid of our macs all together since PC laptops are WAY more popular. Give me a break.

Yeah, the faster FSB would be nice. Along with a better screen and battery, we'd be set. They better hurry up tho...

Some people like notebook computers that are a perfect mix of portability and power - the 17", while it offers more screen real estate, isn't much more powerful than the superdrive-equipped 15" model - other than a slightly better video card and a larger hard drive.
The 17" is a nice machine, but it's obvious by virtue of what most people buy what is the most useful model of the PB line. The 12" and 15" are the best sellers, by far.
