I can't honestly say I've found any Mac software that crashes more frequently than Quicken, with incomprehensible error codes that result in infinite loops. It's very frustrating that they release a new product year after year but can't invest the effort to actually improve anything.

Quicken is convoluded at best. There are some great freeware and shareware programs that are easier to use anyway. Though Quickbooks is great for a business I've heard, but havn't used it.

I don't know about buggiest, but the worst "real" app I've ever used has to be Now Up-To-Date & Contact. The major features are hidden in random places with vague names — for instance, to filter categories, you have to look in the Window menu, away from all the other find options, and choose Quick Find. Even the support guy I talked to took a full minute to figure out where that feature was. And the forward delete key doesn't even work. One of the chicks at my work is convinced Macs are complete **** because that's the only program she ever uses.

I haven't opened Quicken save for a quick glance (came bundled with the Mac mini) but the only real application I've had trouble with was when PhotoShop CS2 had all kinds of errors after upgrading to Tiger. Now, it's smooth as glass with it.

All of you can tell by the poll options that I was venting when I started this thread. Still, I'm surprised by some of the responses. I didn't know Illustrator 10 was so bad, for example.

You find OmniGraffle to be buggy? I haven't used it in a number of months but when I did use it for a project I was very satisfied with the application and what it produced.

I also don't get David Copperfield's response at all.

Any version of Quicken has been buggy in my experience (but I've been lucky to have no corrupt data files or crashing, mainly due to the lack of online banking support for me).

Beyond that, believe it or not almost every time I'm in a recording studio there's a problem with ProTools. I' m surprised so many albums actually get completed, but not surprised that it's nicknamed SlowTools.

... oh, and there's a thread in the Games forum about X2:The Threat that's pretty impressive.

I used it for some very lightweight projects, but gave up due to constant 'NS...' Cocoa error messages. POS, IMHO.

I assume there was some problem with your installation, since the app worked flawlessly for me.

Have those of you with Safari problems upgraded to 10.4.2? The original 2.0 builds of Safari crashed a lot on me, but I haven't had a single crash since the 10.4.2 update. In fact, the update specifically addressed some of the bugs I had filed at Apple.com.

Another vote for pocketmac,

This was so bad that I gave up trying to sync my pda with my mac. (I know use my work pc).

Too bad the title of this thread is a little deceiving. It should have read which version of quicken is the buggiest. I've used quicken 2004 and to be honest is an excellent app. I have had no problems, being two versions down, I'll probably upgrade to 2006 in the course of time.

Get the new version of The Missing Sync. I gave up on PM Pro the other day and bought TMS. It's flawless.

Pocketmac? Is that the app that supposedly lets you sync a PocketPC with your Mac?

If so, I'll add that one to the top of my list - I tried to install it once to connect to a friend's PocketPC and it completely hosed my system. My mac booted to a blue screen afterwards and in the end I had to reinstall the OS.

So yeah, buggy.

Some versions of Realbasic are/were very buggy.

Realplayer on OS 9.

OneClick on OS9.

Word 2004. It dosent' update the screen properly if you use two monitors...among other things.

Apple Mail under Tiger. This has problems with synchronzing with IMAP and older Exchange servers.

I'd be curious as to how long ago it was when you ran into these problems, and if you sent any feedback to the Omni Group about it.

It was siMac who was having problems with OmniGraffle. Mr. Copperfield here was complaining about Warcraft 3, I think.

My vote was Quak... but 6.5 is rather solid on my Mac... Illustrator wasn't my friend... but CS2 seems great so far.

I'm fining the software to be great for the most part. Not all that much bombs on me.

Opps, spoke too soon. Most video programs aren't amazing. Quicktime is good... on a Mac, but on Windows, it's nothing special. WMP is sad... and anything with "Real" in the name makes me cringe.

I hear ya. I'd love to dump NUTD at the office, but replace it with what? It's the app my company loves to hate.

So what's the deal w/Quicken - is there a better app for home finance? I don't use it but my wife is always snaggin on it. She's on an iMac 333 using 0S 9.2 w/Quicken 2000. She's about to inherit my iBook G4 w/OS 10.3.9 and can then update to Quicken 2004. But maybe there's a better app for home budgets/finance????

It has never once crashed on my DP 2.0. And even then, unless there is a serious problem with your Mac you should always be able to get out of a misbehaving foreground app by using the force quit combo (command+option+esc) followed by the return key.

Yeah but in some ways you can forgive apple because 10.0 was really a beta that they rushed out the door. In some ways apple accepted this by giving away 10.1
