I'm havng trouble creating an html email that displays even close to properly in gmail.
I'm okay with css and html, but not amazing, so, after reading this:
http://www.xavierfrenette.com/articl...rt-in-webmail/
I'm not sure if it's telling me what I shouldn't do, or what I can't do at all.
Any tips for making it look okay?

Looks to me like some of the tags aren't getting read.
Post the code maybe?

gmail only supports inline css, and no background images. Its very strict with what it lets through.

gmail strips the css, even if you put it in the body or other hacks. Or inline if you feel like dealing with the hassle.
