I wouldn't say majority, but many many many are. I guarantee that George W. Bush wins half of his votes from the southern part of the U.S. (or below the bible belt) by saying god in his speeches. The issue that the Canadians seem to be able to grasp, and that most Americans can't (or, more correctly, don't want to), is that religion should have nothing to do with a state issued license.

This is what I've been trying to explain to people, but as you said (and that most Americans can't or, more correctly, don't want to) which is true. Americans are destroying their nation because of their strong religious beliefs. Some might say, "I'm proud to be an American." I, on the other hand, am ashamed.

Insecurities? If I was so insecure I wouldnt be 'out' now would I? Or standing up for equality rights. The true insecure people are the ones throwing a hissie fit over two consenting adults making a decision to unite their love in an age old practice of love and security.

How many black men, or black women, would have considered themselves "equal" when this country was founded? How many white women would have considered themselves "equal" when this country was founded?

I am not arguing with your stance on same-sex marriage--I still think they should be called civil unions, though--merely pointing out the fallacy in your logic. This country was NOT founded to provided equal rights to all so the fact that we are not providng equal rights to a segment of our society is not in the least bit surprising to me.
