On Thursday, Apple released iTunes 12.1, a minor update for Yosemite users only that brings only one new feature, along with a general improvement in syncing performance with iOS devices. The big change is that the program now includes a widget that can be optionally added to the Mac's Notification Center. This will allow users to control and get info on a playing song at a glance, whether the user is listening to their own library or to
iTunes Radio.
Users can set banners or alerts as with other Notification-aware programs, or opt whether to have alerts at all. The program can also show the last one, five, 10 or 20 songs or videos played. While using iTunes Radio, the widget will let users skip ahead or buy songs directly from Notification Center if desired. The update will naturally appear for any Yosemite users in the Update section of the Mac App Store.
The Windows version of the software meanwhile makes the app fully 64-bit for Windows 8, 7, and Vista. It also makes some improvements to device sync.
