Pretty unreal indeed. I saw Australia had 434 runs on and thought there's NO WAY SAF would make it. But when I got back home, SAF had already won! Next years World Cup should be mighty interesting.

Australia's biggest blunder in the game was to bring in Mick Lewis to bowl that 48th over. He gave away 17 runs in that over! Even until then he was giving away around 10 runs an over!
Ponting has some explaining to do for that decision.
Of course, I think this unforgettable run chase is going to make a psychological impact for teams that play against Australia. I also wonder if Australia will go downhill from here. Clearly, their bowling attack lacked the sting without McGrath and Warne, both of whom are aging fast.

I'm sure my mom (my immediate family is in South Africa) will be emailing me sometime tomorrow to tell me about the cricket, since lately she has really been enjoying cricket.

Pretty cool though that South Africa won.

In baseball terms, this would be like a 25-24 game or something like that. Except in one day cricket, each side only has one innings (yes, in cricket, 'innings' is singular) so, it's like one baseball side having all its nine innings back-to-back to score 24 runs. Everyone assumes the other team has no chance, but they waltz right in and score 25.

Of couse, for any Pom, the greatest match ever was the Headingley Test Match of 1981, England vs. Australia. Half-way through that five day game, England were 500-1 to win, and Botham stepped up and put his mark in history.

Those run numbers are mind-numbing! How long did the match go?

My personal viewing and playing experience with cricket is limited, but it always seemed like it could be (somehow) even more boring than network televised baseball. Not THIS game!

This was a 'one-day' international which means that each side receives (and delivers) 50 overs of six balls. That is, 300 balls (err, 'pitches') per side. It would start at about 10am and finish at about 6pm. The highest level of cricket is the 'test match', played over five 6-hour days. No tennis balls.

that's because the picture only shows half the story. australia's innings is on the rght and SA's bowling figures on the left.

it does look confusing, though!
