Transmission Again. I used to have problems with it crashing, but there have been some nice updates to it over the last 6 months or so, one of which solved it.

Transmission, FTW.

I love it, it is so simple, but gets the job done.

Wow, Transmission is nice. I've been using Azureus for quite some time — not because it was good, but because everything else was even worse — but Transmission's clean interface and ability to not use up 40% of my CPU all the time is such an improvement.

Ya I tried using Azeurus some time back but the CPU useage was always through the roof compared to other clients. Now the newer versions of Azeurus (or whatever they're calling it) are trying to be a media hub kinda like the iTunes Store which makes it even worse.

Transmission has REALLY came a long way too. Azeurus is just like any other Java application for the Mac. I really wish there was no visible or usability differences with Java apps on OS X, but there is. Otherwise I wouldn't mind Java based applications.

There's no way to get a native feeling application out of Java because it's not a native platform. I accept Java apps for what they are.

Azureus is ugly and fat but it's the most advanced and accurate. Transmission is light and pretty but has a tendency to bork ratios.

Is there still a version of Azureus that doesn't default to the OMFG-IT'S-A-MEDIA-DOWNLOAD-CENTER-MAKE-IT-****ING-GO-AWAY interface?

I threw it out after having to manually switch to "expert" mode every single launch.

Switched to Transmission and am very pleased with it.

Is it possible to run both simultaneously?

I like Azureus' ability to DL selectively parts of a torrent and check connections and progress in detail.
I look forward to a future where the present will be in the past.

Fwiw, there is a preference to always start in Expert mode. Forget what it is called or where it is located, but it is there, so you never need to experience the media hub interface.

I love the BitTorrent curses tool in combination with screen. This allows me to download torrents via the command line on a remote machine.

Easy now. I say it's inaccurate not out of a geeky love of torrent protocol standards, but because it has a history of incorrectly reporting stats and getting people banned on trackers. A number of trackers have it flat out banned as a client because of this (and a few other problems). Some people may care about that.

Well it does have the silly media interface but it's toned down with a few options if I remember correctly. All I do now is click on the advanced tab and it looks like the Azureus of old. Not that that's any real treat. I'm still waiting for uTorrent.

BitTyrant (based on Azureus) is pretty good. Otherwise, Transmission.

I too have been using Azureus for a while. Since Windows actually. I have noticed after the upgrade to Leopard I have been getting a lot of kernel panics when I leave it on all night when I am downloading something. Not sure if this has to do anything with the application.

I've used Transmission ever since Azureus started that media distribution mess. I've never heard of a client for OS 9 or earlier. Is there anyway to download torrents on a pre-OS X Mac other than totally skipping the Mac OS and running some version of Linux on it? I'm interested in knowing even if the solution is convoluted.

I am really liking the LH-ABC client… sure you better look for another app icon and set the toolbar to be shown as text only, but besides that… it is really fast.
