Does anyone know how/if I can play .avi files on OS X? QuickTime Player doesn't seem to do the trick.

I haven't looked into this, nor have I tried it very much. I have had some problems with some AVIs, but we might be able to chalk it up to not having the Intel Indeo Quicktime codec available for OS X.

OmniWeb seems to automatically change the extension of downloaded AVIs to .vfw. Though there's probably no difference, trying that manually may be worth a shot.

You can't play all .avi or only a couple? Most of the .avi's floating (pirate movies) around the 'net are DiVX/Mpeg4 encoded, which would expain your playback problem.

Thanks for your replies everyone. It seems that _some_ .avi files can be viewed with the QuickTime players. Others it tells me I'm missing the codec. VersionTracker has Intel Indeo video codecs for OS9, but not OS X. Does anyone know if this will be available for OS X?
