I found a really nice icon to replace the Dashboard icon on my dock. I've tried replacing it with Candybar, with no success. The icon is replaced in Finder, but not on the dock. I've even tried ctrl-clicking on Dashboard, then "Show Package Contents" and the new icon is there. But the dock icon is still the original icon, even after restarting the dock and after restarting the system. How can I change the icon? Can it even be done?
Thank you!

Have you tried dragging it off the Dock and then back on? I've needed to do this with some apps even after logging in and out.

Yes (and I just did it again, to be sure.) Can it be that the original icon is in a file I don't know about?

You made sure that Dashboard was quit first?

it takes a little time, but i usually go into the contents folder and select all the .icn, .tif, and other image files and open them all at once in Preview so i can make sure i catch all the ones i want to replace. did that for iLife and a few other apps.

What icon do you have that you want to replace the current one with?

Randman: How do you quit Dashboard? I tried killall Dashboard from Terminal and it didn't work.
ManOfSteal: It's from Pixel Sage, at
http://www.pixelsage.com/index2/?cat=5.
joezane: There is no coreservices folder in my system -> library folder.
Sorry about the questions, I'm a newbie!

Oops, sorry, I was looking at Library, not System->Library.

Dashboard is a part of the Dock, to quit it you quit the dock.

I tried replacing dashboard.png in the system->library->coreservices->dock->contents folder, quit the dock, restarted the computer, dragged it out of the dock and replaced it, and it still didn't work. I know replacing this one dock icon isn't much but it's driving me crazy!

You can change this using ThemePark and ShapeShifter. Create a new file in ThemePark, add an icon set variant, change the icon, export a guiKit, apply it with ShapeShifter.

Thank you, Smeger! I didn't even think about trying that and it worked like a charm.
