I have a friend who will let me crunch in the background on his machine. The problem is that he has it set up with multiple accounts for himself and his children. That way the kids don't see his stuff, and their cluttered desktops won't be bothering him. This means that each user normally logs on and then logs off after an hour or so each day. With the new longer SETI and Einstein WU, no single user stays logged in long enough to complete a WU before it runs out of time (older iMac). Is it possible to install the application and the project files both on the hard drive as shared files, with preferences for each user to start up the single shared Boinc manager? I'll be visiting them this weekend and would like to get this set up. I've heard I can set up a CRON file, but I don't understand the directions - my knowledge of terminal/UNIX was just enough to get the CLI version of BOINC running on my PowerBook a couple of years ago, but I've been using BOINC Manager for the last year and a half...

There is a new version of BOINC Manager on the way which is in test at the moment and may solve your problem.

You want to run the CLI client via unix. Someone will post the instructions, or else I'll do what I can to figure it out when I have some time in the next few days (wait, me have time, yeah right...).

With my iMac Core Duo, I have a couple of accounts and I just leave myself logged on and then the others can log and off as they wish, but the boinc just keeps on crunching as there can be more than one person logged on at one time.

This is a bit old and some of the versions have changed. This starts boinc at boot time, so boinc will run regardless of who is logged in.

I recently put in a feature to easily enable/disable running boinc. The changes are
mkdir /etc/daemons
touch /etc/daemons/boinc

In the /Library/StartupItems/boinc/boinc script
change

If they use Fast User Switching instead of doing a complete logout, BOINC should continue to run. Or you could put BOINCManager in the startup items of each user.
