I guess it depends on what you mean by "go wireless." If you have a cable ISP and have a wireless router (like an AirPort or LinkSys base station) creating a wireless network in your home, then the answer would be Cable. If you go somewhere (like a campus) that has a wireless network set up and get on there, then I guess the answer would be whichever one you use more.

Me, I don't have an internet connection in my apartment, so I carry my PowerBook to campus every day, where I can get on their wireless network for free. So I answered Wireless. But if I had cable at home, then it would depend on which one I used more.

Qwest 1.5 mbit DSL here. Cheaper than cable, faster upload speed. I probably would have been okay with 256 kbit which was about $15/month cheaper, but I'm living with two other people and we really do need the bandwidth.

I think "Wireless" would refer to not just using a wireless school network primarily, but also for people using a wireless cell phone style hookup. I know someone who has a tiny little Sony subnotebook with a 144 kbps mobile internet card that runs on a mobile phone network.

There's also ISDN/IDSL (covered by "other" I suppose). My family uses that because they live too far from civilization. It could be years before they get real high-speed internet. Right now they're stuck at 144 kbps.

I have Cable Modem service which is very reliable in this part of New Jersey. I hooked this up to a Netgear RT-314 router (wired) and into that I plug my AirPort Extreme Base Station. I've added a couple of AirPort Express units to extend the range all over the house (new addition created dead spots). I'm currently beaming my signal towards my neighbor's house (he bought a Dr. Bott antenna for me to install so he can weeze some free internet. He's trustworthy, a friend, and his financial situation prohibits his buying boadband himself. With 3 kids in school broadband is almost a necessity, and this way he gets a strong signal in about 1/2 his house.

I used to have Verizon ADSL, because that was the only option available at the time. It absolutely sucked, and I swear that a crap 56k line was more reliable than that DSL. Also, it used some crappy software which was called MacPoet or some crap like that, and it wasn't uncommon for the ADSL to be down at least once a week. The Upload speed on aDSL was also a joke, which is why I suppose they call it ADSL and not DSL.

I'm using RoadRunner Cable now (3 megabits down - 512 k up I think), and it seems pretty good. Way, way faster and much more reliable then the crappy Verizon DSL I had. Also, I don't need that crappy MacPoet program to connect. Just plug in an ethernet cable, and you're ready to go.

DSL just means Digital Subscriber Line. There are different types of DSL.

ADSL: Asymetric DSL = up and down speed is different
SDSL: Symmetric DSL = up and down the same speed
VDSL...

etc..

I voted cable, but I think I was supposed to vote wireless...
I am using an eMac, but its on a wireless home network that is run by a cable modem and an airport extreme down the hall. It never moves around, like a wireless connection though, thats why I voted cable. It would be cable, if I wasn't so lazy. Wireless was just soo easy to set up and Im too lazy to run wires to my room. (and I have connections that get me an airport extreme card for 1/2 price )

Comcast cable modem while it's on promotion for $19.99 for 6 months. After that, probably DSL, unless Comcast offers another promotion, which is pretty unheard of for them.

I use Earthlink DSL which is very reliable. Have thought about Cable, but really hate the thought of change.

Anybody here have one of those 100mbps fiber lines in Japan that are $50 a month? Why can't somebody offer that here?

Comcast cable for me. 3Mb down, 256Kb up.
I'd be willing to trade a bit of downstream speed for an upstream boost, personally.

I have microwave!

I live in the country and this is the only high speed option here. There's a dish mounted on my deck, that looks like a satellite dish, but it's not pointing at the sky, it's pointing at tower that's line of sight across the lake. It's not bad, about 1/2 as fast as my cable modem at work. $44 Canadian per month.

DSL. 3000/416 (Real world: 2500/380) -- it might not be the fastest but the upload is DAMN nice for the price (comcast offers 4/380 for about the same price but they happen to have a stricter policy on bandwidth use which I'm NOT for).

Yeah The plus side about it this way is I have dialup with it, and if the DSL is down 2 people can be signed in through dialup or usually 1 dialup 1 dsl.. yeah weird but cool

Old-school 56k dial-up here. I used to have DSL from Qwest, but then I moved and my new house was just barely outside the nearest switching station's DSL range.

One if these days I'll get off my butt and sign up for Comcast broadband service.

Cable.
we had SBC DSL but it had to be restarted every 3 days and it was just slow as hell, and not worth it at all.

We currently have Adelphia Powerlink, pretty decent speeds, 2Mbs down, 800/900 up, (but only on the physically connected computers, my Airport seems to choke it for some reason) No real complaints here, sometimes it slows down for awhile, especially at night when i'm sending AIM files and playing games on my PS2...but oh well, decently priced for the speed.
